The last thing Divinity needs is a bunch of faggots wearing 100 belts whining about their father
Dont forget the long hair and makeup on the males. However it would still be awesome if SE stopped making horrible FF's and made something awesome.

I figured out why I was having such a hard time. I was just jumping out into the world as soon as I got to town when there are lots of hidden passages, loot, and things to kill right there. That's why I never had money and couldn't help but fight things higher level, I was basically skipping an entire area right at the start of the game.

Go around and steal every painting off the walls and gold cup and you'll make enough money to buy good weapons for your toons

Given the prices of things I think the game anticipates that you'll run around and swipe everything. Trying to buy skill books for level 1 companions looked impossible because I just wasn't stealing enough. The level 1 guys start with no skills! How can I possibly afford this!

Oh,robbery.

What level are you guys when you fight Evelyn? I am getting absolutely fucked in that fight. Like, destroyed. I'm using 2 casters, 1 melee, 1 ranged - either level 5 or 6. If the level difference is negligible, what did you guys do to get decent gear? The shops I've visited have very little of value - especially with respect to armor - and I can't really understand why I'm so weak.

Edit: I should add that I'm playing pretty intelligently (terrain, elements, etc.) and have really only had 1 tough fight previous - Dieter (or whatever) on the beach with his invisible thugs.

5-6? I stayed in town till L3 or so then i did all the nearby quest and lighthouse etc. I also didnt bother to pick up Madora - instead i rolled a DK and Wiz for my main toons backed up by Jahan as healed and picked up an Archer - This is like my 40th reroll with my old main squad being lead by a Rogue and Wiz with Jahan and an Archer - However this new squad more or less destroys. The DK can 1 or 2 shot most bosses with enrage now. I find a tank with alot of hp to be somewhat essential, i know some people spoke of only using casters but man does having a beefy tank who destroys make shit so much better. Archer can lay down some nice effects on enemies while doing great damage, so no matter what group i do i always have one atleast.

I liked rogues but overall they seem to be the ones that require the most to get going, granted only costing 2AP to attack is nice, i like plate melee more to keep my dress wearers happy.

Also did you do talking statues yet? you should possibly do that first if you havent.

5-6 is the breakpoint, once you get that, so much content opens up that you can be comfortably level ahead for the rest of the A1

Forgot , was just trying to remember the order in which i killed shit - i know i sent esmerelda to jail and that mortician dude - i then later freed esmerelda anyways lol by unlocking her cell. More or less doing all the quest you can helps alot - on my first few rerolls i skipped alot of content.

Not sure about levels but as long as she's not much higher level than you then you're alright. Things that help would be a fire elemental to tank the dogs+fire skeletons(it gets healed from their attacks since they're fire). Otherwise I'd say in terms of strategy, disable her and the caster guy(blind, freeze, knockdown, stun all work fine, maybe Evelyn is immune to knockdown forgot, in which case hit her with something else), pop the dogs asap they have shit for hp so you can generally kill both in one turn, make sure it's raining too(can cast before the fight) to mitigate fire damage nd remove burning every turn, then kill the burning skeleton guy that summons the other and the bigger guy. Debuff them if you can like with Slow Current or CC them also if you can afford it, depends on your setup. Use summons to soak up damage, use some fire potions on whoever has aggro from the skeletons. If you can, use a charm arrow to control the big guy right away that'll give you a lot of damage while reducing your own damage. Can also abuse the stairs by going back up and using them as a major chokepoint for aoe fuckfest, especially with like making a pool of water by raining on the stairs then using lightning spells in them to aoe stun everything, just kinda gonna stun your own melee too so can be annoying. Can light everything on fire instead but many of the mobs heal from fire so not necessarily optimal and fire does a lot of damage to your own chars at this level.

It's one of the early "hard" fight, you basically have to learn not to try to brute force everything at that point and learn to control shit because of the sheer amount of damage you can take in a single turn. Your mages are key for this fight, which spells you have will kinda dictate how you play the fight, if you have made poor choices it might be harder than you can handle. You could try going somewhere else but the difficulty is going to be fairly high everywhere at this point.

Key spells would be Boulder Bash(aoe knockdown), Blitz Bolt(lightning spell with good stun chance that can electrify water), Rain(increase stun/freeze chance, reduces fire damage, removes burning), Blind(hard disable against ranged mobs), Fire elemental(can tank the entire encounter like a boss assuming the order of the attacks are right since he heals from fire damage), Slow Current(soft disable but pretty good against hard hitting enemies like the skeleton and the big guy), Ice Shards(can freeze shit, works especially well against Wet targets but beware the frozen ground, if you walk on it you need to do small movements otherwise you'll slip and that sucks hard), Teleportation(group up mobs for boulder bash knockdown and also higher single target damage spell, can sometimes hit 2 mobs), Summon Spider(if you don't have fire ele or if you do but on another char, since more summons is better, tanks alright) and at this point Wildfire is still good most likely while Oath of Desecration is only alright.

Wait Esmerelda goes to jail!? I'm nearly lv19!
You can have her imprisoned early on in the game if you dont care about her being innocent like me

If you ever have problems with a fight, charm arrows/abilities and a bit of save scumming should carry you past it. Unless the target says immune, it's just a matter of patience. Yes, it's dirty, but the game has some bullshit mechanics too that it doesn't bother to tell you until it stabs you in the back and laughs in your face.

Say hi to Braccus Rex and his turn 1 meteor rain that does 200+ burning damage on your whole party !

Thats why i put them all separate and engage him with one person so he pretty much misses everyone but maybe one. He was a pita the first few times i tried him.

End of game spoiler:
If only the final bosses in the last zones had... you know... any kind of abilities like the ones on the other two zones have. I just melee'd the final bosses to death while keeping a heal on the NPC :/

The endgame is rubbish, it really hurts the rest of the game. So much feel unfinished.

I'd agree there.

Fucking *fantastic* game but I felt like they left the end game accessible to non min-maxers and while that's cool and all... it isn't really the spirit of old-school RPGs. Let infinite grinding come back and give the option of min-maxing and/or grinding to get through the tough stuff imo. It gets, well, kinda too easy after a bit and the biggest challenge is more keeping the myriad quest requirements straight.

It's pretty good yeah, kept me playing for 50 hours. Ironically though the early game probably isn't accessible to non min maxers!

This is what happens when someone can program and has good ideas for mechanics but hasn't taken a basic game design course which would mention difficulty curves and doesn't have time to finish it off.

I basically had to figure out how to make Rex's AI not perform that move on his opening turn. Since he makes a circle around the room if you run up to him while he's closest to where you're going to talk with him he won't do it. He'll just summon his dudes, run up and hit you for like 100 damage then run away.
