So, I've finally had some time to put into this game but have the following questions. I just hit level 3 and have found the two NPC's. As far as I can tell I've explored the whole town.

1) How important are bows? I chose a battlemage and cleric as my characters, so along with the NPC's I don't see myself having anybody suitable to train in bows, at least not without diluting their melee ability
2) Is the only difference between the classes which abilities they start with? In other words, hypothetically speaking, if I dumped some 2h and armor points into my cleric there isn't much differentiating her from rolling a warrior?
3) Is the only way to blow up barrels with arrows and spells?
4) Is there some secret to using QuickSave lol? My F5 and F8 keys do nothing.
5) Is Jake's murder solvable without leaving Cyseal?

1) Personally I found bows lackluster. My rogue would sometimes switch to bow to use charm arrow but that was about it. I just backstabbed fuckers for huge damage.
2) Yes only starting stats/abilities.
3) You could hit them with a melee if you really want .... I don't advise it.
4) Worked for me out of the box. Does your keyboard have that stupid f-lock key that is disabling your F keys?
5) Depends on what you mean by "solvable" ....

Bows start out very, very weak but really start to come in to their own by level 12 or so. A couple of their later skills put out some legit damage, and the utility of the arrows just cannot be beat. I started with a rogue but by level 6 or so had given up completely on scoundrel skills aside from haste/invis and was running bow full time.

Thanks.. Well, holy crap, I never even saw the f-lock key on my keyboard-- I didn't even know such a thing existed. self derp +1.

Daggers have big advantage because with 2AP per attack, you can almost rely on the elemental effect to proc and backstab does crazy damage, but of course melee can be a bit dangerous, you should get used to positioning your rogue before the fight, sneak + invis allows you to open the fight with your guy ready to murder somebody on the first turn. You also want a scoundreel because with invis, you can steal anything anywhere that isn't nailed down. I think I have like 40k gold at lvl 10.

Jake's murder is solvable as far as you know reliably who did it and where to find that person.

5 sneak+guerilla makes bows MUCH better. (daggers too obviously, but its even more efficient for bows/xbows.)

My rogue is bow/dagger hybrid all the way.
Which she leaned on more has changed back and forth.

Early game bows give alot of play when daggers are very weak vs skeletons. Bows also suffer the DR, but hit harder, and don't put you into melee.
Later, daggers take off. Due to your rogue having 4-7 movement. it only takes 2 AP to run anywhere on or off screen. As well as elemental resists allowing you to walk through AOE. And likely ranks in body building/willpower preventing stun/burning/knocked down, when standing in elem effects.
All things that suck for a rogue, before you get those immunities. Standing back and unleashing with a bow is much more effective, if you are going to eat a stun in electrified water.
dagger/scoundrel rogues also have no aoe to speak of.

and there is a not random unique bow about halfway through the game, that is very good.

Raw damage daggers win out of course.

I like most the Scoundrel skills. Charm is really powerful throughout the game. Daggers Drawn is an excellent initiation skill. I'm still trying to tinker with the bomb summon but it seems if you can use him right it can be powerful. I like to haste/invs first turn, store some AP, run over and plant the bomb then use the Marksman skill to leap out. Then whenever my mage has his turn I'll blow up the bomb.

I bought a keyboard maybe 5-7 years ago that came with F-lock keys and it literally took me a year to figure out why the fuck the F keys didn't work. Worst part is it booted up with the F keys disabled and I'd constantly forget to turn them on until I was playing a game and needed to quickly hit the F keys.

Dunno bows to me at L15 do crazy dmg - sometimes more than my DKs 2hd sword and for less AP since its 3 now with quickdraw. Giving him a few buffs and hes launching missiles out for 300+ dmg a pop so i dig it.

Is there a way to mass heal your party? Like the equivalent to making camp or staying at an inn which is typical in similar games?

No, and it's kind of stupid. Just gotta spam heal spells out of combat or eat all the useless food you find.

Bows for me far outdamaged daggers by lategame. I picked up Heartseeker around level 15 or so and used it until the end. The triple shot skill is better damage than the dagger flurry, the multi-shot type skill is INSANE damage if you get up in somethings face (especially on larger enemies) as like 90% of the shots will hit one target. Riccochet for some AE damage if you need it. Ranged charm skill, combined with nearly unlimited utility from elemental arrows. It just can't be beat.

If you want big melee damage have someone use a 2H and their flurry skill, it's just better than daggers. 2h is probably the highest pure damage you can get. Mahora was oneshotting most boss-types by the end with a flurry.

You don't need to cast heals.

Take the skill that heals you when you "stand in blood" and you get a % heal based on your HP every time you take a slashing or piercing hit (not sure about crushing). I got to the point where my tank would GAIN health from melee hits. The low level witchcraft bloodletting skill becomes a full heal if you cast it on your own characters (it isn't self cast and you'll need high int to actually have it hit your tank though).

You can also combine it with the skill that lets you survive any attack if you have more than 1 HP and some melee things like Death Knights can't actually kill you. I found this was only really relevent for my low health caster and didn't always save them because of elemental spells not healing you.

Your caster can take the invisibility spell from the air skills and as long as they have enough action points (glass cannon) can recast it at the end of their every turn to be invunerable as long as they don't get caught in AOE.

They nerfed the piss out of leech (the blood heal thing). It's no longer free immortality.

Compared to what it was a few patches ago it's crushed. It sucks up entire huge pools of blood as one heal, where it used to be like every "space" would be a heal out of a blood pool.

It's still super good because it's free healing (and because a lot of the perks are awful), but it's no where near the jesus mode it used to be.

Thanks a lot for the advice and implicit encouragement in this thread. It looks like I'm roughly the right level but I have not done the Speaking Statues quest yet. I'll back out and do that before fighting Evelyn. The rain + blitz bolt + charm strat is what I'll focus on. Thanks guys!

Wish it would drop into a discount mode - want to co-op but $80 is a bit more than I want to put into turn-based games.

Well that was weird. I completely owned Evelyn. All I did was make it rain and cast more shock spells. My charm didn't even work but it turned out not to matter. Cool beans.

Ah I see, main use I get out of it is mitigating single melee hits or full heal via bloodletting.

The closest thing I've found is having your characters sleep in other people's beds. The guard area near Crysea north gate works okay.
