Knowing HBO Max they'll release a 4 hour version of it once it clears the theaters like they did Justice.
Also many many have HBO Max. Why go pay $20 to see it in Covid when you can microwave your own popcorn.

Why not both? I loved it in imax. Loved it on plex. Om nom nom nom nom.

This all came about because I was flicking you shit for explaining one of the only things that seemed obvious to me in both movies, especially the 1984 version. I've read a bunch of stuff in this thread and in synopsis of the books that I had no idea about, but the power of the spacing guild (through non-militaristic means) was very obvious. Even your example where you use OPSEC as a proximal example was a thought that ran through my head when watching the beginning of the new one.

Obviously there is a metric fuckton of lore that people like me don't know because we didn't read the books, but the fact that military might doesn't truly rule the roost (other than controlling spice production) during this era of the Dune "universe" should be pretty damn obvious to people that only watched the movies.

edit: and yes, it was during the second time the spacing guild sees the emperor in the first movie. It's obvious he's beholden to them during the first encounter as well, but the 2nd encounter was more of a blatant threat.
Lithose explaining something is a weird thing to get all rustled about.

If there's tons of unused footage, a director's cut can be made. Hopefully the demand for it will be there. Hell, there's several scenes and dialogue in the first trailer alone that didn't make it.
I have not checked the article linked earlier in the thread, but, as a general rule, the fact that some footage / scenes were shot and did not end up in the movie does not mean the director wished they were in it. Sometimes things that work on the page do not work once shot, or some brilliant scenes do not fit in the puzzle that is a movie as a whole, so the director's cut is the cut that removes those scenes. I have limited experience with much smaller productions and less seasoned crews, but in the long journey that is the creation of a movie there are changes made all along the way, so the initial idea of how the film will be can be significantly different than what the film ends up being. And I don't mean it in a negative way.

Acknowledged, but I'd have a hard time believing that there wasn't anything cut solely for time constraints. Notably everything between the Atreides arrival on Arrakis and the Harkonnen attack felt rushed.

Don't ask about space jews and the emp if you will "flick shit" for having it explained. Also, Lynch's version sucked in that regard..It wasn't a hierarchical relationship. That was the whole point of the post--they were dependent on each other. The Guild had a massive weakness in not having an army and were terrified of people knowing just how much Spice they used and were dependent on. The Emp was an essential ally for them, which gave him power over them--which is why he was worried about a rival who might be able to give them an alternative.

Now stop explaining the 0.03% of Dune Lore that I have a grasp on and go type up 10,000 words explaining the Butlerian Jihad to me. I'll check in on your progress at lunch.

To be fair "Chinese 'Dune' poster removes unknown actress in side character to make room for a big name in the HK-Taiwan-China film industries and an actor people might recognize from american blockbusters. Also, explosions !"
Removing black actors from the posters is a common practice in China.

Watched it tonight on the Max. As everyone has said, visuals and music was stunning. While I personally despise Zendaya I totally don't get the hate here. She basically had like 5 lines and is mostly in dream sequences. She is a non-issue for me.

I think it falls on leaving out so much info. If you haven't read the book you don't know what you don't know. Yueh being a traitor is bad, but they don't discuss the imperial conditioning and non-book readers don't grasp how "holy shit" him being the traitor is or how amazing it is that Harkonnen broke it.

I read the book and knew what was what. From that point of view it didn't suck and it wasn't great. Lack of titties is a definite 1 point reduction. 6.5/10

Her smug/sneering line to Paul talking about how he's going to die to the nog Fremen made me instantly remember why I hate her. Very similar to Brie Larson actually.

So prescience, or the ability to avoid its effects was the most crucial plot point of GEOD?

And his tyrant behavior consisted of forcing humanity to stagnate and regress?

I was just interested in the character as he seems so utterly ridiculous, yet many people respect him as a protagonist, and interestingly, also the antagonist.

Also, does the Golden Path include subjugating humanity for 3500 years before ensuring their survival?

Couldnt of Leto II just fucking killed himself instead of going through all of the trouble with taking over breeding programs and creating a one of a kind non prescient to kill him to ensure the golden path?

That was the most interesting part to me when I read the synopsis because I've been telling my friends for a few years that the ability to collect and parse data in modern day is fucking horrifying because of it's ability to aid those that have an interest in manipulating populations.

Prescient-resistant humans were part of the Golden Path but not the full extent of it.

Frank Herbert’s Dune universe depends on genetic memory. The 3500 years of stagnation was necessary to engrave a memory that their (the universe) bones would remember and, thus, instinctually rebel against, causing the scattering that ensures the survival of humanity.
