I think it's logical to assume that the Jihad was against these slavers, destroying their machines, and the subsequent creation and enforcement of a prohibition against thinking machines, so that future similar enslavement wouldn't happen.

Yeah your interpretation is reasonable and makes a lot more sense than the son's books on the subject, where the big enemy was literally thinking robots (with some cyborg battles along the way). Of course what he meant by "enslave them" is open to interpretation.

Personally, when I read that quote now in 2024 I can't help but think that the social media, digital entertainment, grubhub lifestyle is an early version of what he was describing...
