Major eruptions occurred roughly 2.1m, 1.3m and 640,000 years ago. A difference of 800,000 betwen the first and second and 660,000 between the second and third. So I'm cool with ignoring your bolded statement given 3 such eruptions in the past 2.1 million years - that's pretty wishful thinking by the USGS considering the uplift occurring with the Caldera these days.
The odds are 1 in 10,000 of a super eruption in any given year.

You know, these are exactly the things my CTNJ (Conspiracy Theory Nutjob) coworkers talk about. Unfortunately, they are also my friends, although that's obviously becoming strained.
It is one thing to read/argue these things on the internet, but it is actually very disheartening and depressing in real life. Not trying to be a downer or anything, but it is really starting to feel like I've just lost two friends out of the blue, because for 15 years everything was cool, and then the last year or so...this. And the worst part is that they are actually furious with me for being "asleep" and "blind" to what the government is doing to me, when I should be the one that gets to be angry, shouldn't I?
Sorry, just makes me feel kind of sad to see how quickly you can lose someone to shit like this.
By the way, the banana chart did nothing but make them respond that obviously the government (US and Japan I suppose) is lying about how much radiation is actually being released. Still, I will keep coming here for ammunition, so thanks guys, keep it up.

The siberian basalt traps were formed during a series of supervolcanic eruptions over a period of a million years, spanning the Permian-Triassic boundary and largely thought to have contributed to the Permian-Triassic mass extinction. After a million years of frequent (frequent on a geological scale) supervolcanic eruptions, there has not been another supervolcanic eruption in the last 250 million years.
