Unlikely anytime soon, but possible tomorrow. Super eruptions happen every 630-670,000 years. It's been 630,000 years since that last one.Give us a timeline on the Yellowstone explosion, Lumie...... I mean, Tad.

So the midwest it ruled out as a place to live because of Yellowstone, the west is out because of Japan, the Northeast is currently an iceberg and the south is a sea of human stupidity. Is there anywhere safe left in the US to live?Fukushima and Solar Flares are much higher on the concern scale - though Yellowstone could have a small scale eruption anytime, super eruption probably not happening for a couple thousand years, but you never know. I wouldn't buy a house in Colorado.
Oh that really narrows it down. Human civilization has existed for 12,000 years altogether.Unlikely anytime soon, but possible tomorrow. Super eruptions happen every 630-670,000 years. It's been 630,000 years since that last one.

Everybody needs a bunker. No, seriously, I think he has a bunker.
No pics. Seb might get hungry.Pics or the bunker didn't happen
Soo...if the ash doesn't touch my area I'm safe from a giant volcano eruption? I'll inform my realtor.@Skanda Actually Northwestern/eastern Montana is fine, Yellowstone blows SE look at the ash maps. If that's too cold, there's always Texas!
But the way the tectonic plates are moving means the next explosion will probably be IN Montana so I think it best to totally avoid that area.Everybody needs a bunker.

Damn straight.Soo...if the ash doesn't touch my area I'm safe from a giant volcano eruption? I'll inform my realtor.
It's colder at my place today than it was yesterday. Global warming confirmed debunked.Because taking two data points: One cruise - "lots of shit" Second cruise ten years later "almost zero shit" - isn't a valid method of data collection? Whereas sitting on your ass and writing an article in Seattle based on 2011 and 2012 data is totally valid for 2014?
Snowball Earth incoming. It's colder at my place today than it was yesterday. Global warming confirmed debunked.
Things my father says at Thanksgiving. It's colder at my place today than it was yesterday. Global warming confirmed debunked.
When?Snowball Earth incoming.
That one is a ways out, well unless it started yesterday. When?
In 50,000 years?
Ill mark it down on my calendar.
If it was anyone else, I would think they had to be trolling because they couldn't be this stupid.Unlikely anytime soon, but possible tomorrow. Super eruptions happen every 630-670,000 years. It's been 630,000 years since that last one.
USGS: Volcano Hazards Program - Yellowstone Volcano Observatory Featured Articles Archivefrom two weeks ago.USGS - Yellowstone Volcano Observatory_sl said:Although fascinating, the new findings do not imply increased geologic hazards at Yellowstone, and certainly do not increase the chances of a "supereruption" in the near future.Contrary to some media reports, Yellowstone is not "overdue" for a supereruption. Indeed, it is quite possible that such an eruption will never again occur from the Yellowstone region.Scientist agree that smaller eruptions are likely in the future, but the probability of ANY sort of eruption at Yellowstone still remains very low over the next 10 to 100 years.
