That's the thing with all these Souls games, they are so much harder single player than multi-coop. Every single boss going back to Demon's Souls is made so much easier if you just summon someone in to help. You just need someone to hold the boss's focus and go defensive, other people go in for hits, then rinse/repeat.

I'm not sure why they brought in the ash summons for this iteration, my feeling is because they want to make this game more appealing to the general gamin populace, and on that end they have succeeded. Probably a quick fix is that the boss should scale and become harder when you use an ash summon, just like it does when you summon another player(s) in.

I don't have a personal issue with the ash system, I think it let's people get over the most frustrating parts of the game without having to resort on other people. I personally try a boss with no ash, then if I hit a wall I'll use mimic tear. I tried summoning other people to help but it usually ends up worse than if I try myself with the mimic so I gave up on that a while ago.
The ash system is perfect for ER. I'll go even further to say that if they had included it in previous Dark Souls games it would have improved them.

My only comment is that the game should include a "hard mode" that removes them from the game and some other stuff. But at the very least it's an easy thing for a player to chose to drop. I'm doing that now and slowly working my way through the game and I'm already having more fun than just hiding behind the mimic tear.

Playing with the greatsword really feel unfair on some specific boss.
In that you can stagger some bosses easily and others you can't? I had the same experience.

I'm really enjoying Bloodhound's Fang's Finesse AoW. It's not only strong and increases effective range / openings but feels like more of a melee-centric ability than other range-increasing ashes I've used like moonveil/hoarfrost. Getting the timing right just feels so satisfying compared jump attacks + dodge rolling backward.



What melee builds in ER really needs is a better gap closer. Chasing end-game bosses like Mohg feels like you brought a sword to a gun fight.

I'm gonna have to change things up somehow though. I can tank her entire anime attack with about 80% of my endurance bar, but she heals for so fucking much still during it.

Put down the great shield pick up a buckler, buckler parry is super forgiving. As soon as she starts her aoe spam you can parry at any time and throw it back.

They also made critical hits far less damaging vs DS3. A parry in DS3 you dead in PvP, here you can shrug it off. Why parry when you can just roll catch using Giant Hunt for more damage.
Giant Hunt on a long weapon like a halberd or lance is insane BTW. I bait 2 dudes down a narrow area throw a R1 into Giant hunt most dead. Most run shit vigor though but GH does over half their health most times.

Ya lance is real gross, charging R1 with royal knights resolve is like 1200-1400dmg

Is she specifically weak to parry? I gave up on bucklers super early on because even with a parry "hit" it wasn't actually staggering most mobs and you'd have to land 2-3 of them to get a crit opportunity.

And yea giant hunt is fucking busted AF. Black knight halberd upgrades to like S+ STR scaling and has been carrying me for like half the game with giant hunt.

Which halberd are you talking about? I'm not aware of a "Black Knight Halberd" and I don't see any similar weapons that immediately stick out to me as S+ scaling.

Glad I beat him prenerf, but it's sounding like they are already also nerfing content I'm not even at yet. I've been really taking my time apparently. I'm at 90 hours and just nearing the end of Mt. Gelmir(though I've fucked around in areas further ahead, progression-wise). I haven't "lost time" in a single player game like this, in forever. It reminds me of Skyrim in that regard, except it has rewarding combat and loot.
