Ffxi was pretty slow and strategic combat and worked atleast as well as other mmo's. I think the slowed down action allowed for putting together and timing skill chains and shit like that which was cool. I mean with these games everything becomes a grind eventually because there's so much repetition, no matter what style combat you have. But this whole dodge around constantly crap also gets tiresome after a while.

Make the combat like TERA and give it dualshock 4 support and I will never play another game.

I could play God of War-like brawlers for hours on end.
My dream MMO would have combat like Darksouls, Infact my dream MMO would be a Darksouls MMO.

Man..I really like Darksouls.

See, thats what Im saying. Why cant an MMO just have classes that have different styles of combat. It would add variety and appease so many people. Steal a class like the berzerker from Tera for a melee DPS. ... I know, I know, I have to play it, but I havent played DS2 yet - but from what I know, that style would be perfect for a tank. Any melee class has a specific kind of interrupt, or disable that allows for a moment of opportunity. Depending on how the melee class is specced, the MOO could be specific to Critical Hit, or Elemental Damage etc. The boss mechanics could do telegraphs like Wildstar combat for the melee.

Archers/Hunters have a fast rotation that works explicitly with the melee DPS that provide moments of opportunity. A Wizard takes time to cast a big spell like Ice Comet with a CD that resets upon the targeted mobs death, or if 8 seconds pass (ex.). Mana matters again to those classes. Ranged classes actually have to watch their aggro once again so its not a snooze fest out there, where as a melee DPS has a much higher aggro threshold. ...and of course, Im sure some dance dance revolution shit could be thrown around to add flare for the bored ranged class.

I feel like I would have a ball in combat like that and probably have an alt or two. *day dreams*

One huge problem with classes these days and class diversity is that players are spoiled, entitled and whiney while developers are weak willed. Everybody wants everything and everyone wants to be able to do everything. It really pisses me off. Nobody is happy with a class speciality or excelling at one thing while falling short in another. Everyone wants to be able to solo just as well as anyone else, DPS as well as anyone else, etc. etc. WoW is the worst and saddest example of this. I'll be happy when developers stick to their guns and players stop being whiny little entitled bitches and we get real class diversity again like in EQ1.

Class diversity has little to do with it. Support / Enhancement mechanics need to actually exist before you even get to class design.
