I hate "starting zones" for this reason - when I said 3 zones I hoped they'd be Qeynos, Freeport and Neriak or similar. My bad for not being specific.

EVE is FFA in a sense, but there are penalties such as faction hits and the presence of Concord (NPC space police) who can warp in and wipe you if you trigger them in hisec (0.5 - 1.0). IIRC in 0.4 sec and below Concord won't show up to help if you're ganked (though in Empire space you will still get a faction hit iirc for outlaw acts) so most people view lowsec as pretty lawless and you knowingly take a risk going there (or passing through lowsec systems as a shortcut).
So peopleCANgank you in hisec but normally they will only do it if they find a target with an incredibly valuable cargo that they can suicide gank (which is why you deserve to be ganked if you try flying around with thousands of dollars worth of plex in your cargo hold). Besides the usual attempts at baiting people into attacking them so that they can gank you w/o penalty, most carebears won't get ganked but rarely unless there is some player created event going down and they are stupid enough to AFK mine.

From what I'm hearing the world is quite large, segmented into big provinces, and many dungeons (mini dungeons or whatever they are calling them) are in fact, open world.
But hey, Planetside 2 has multiple servers, so maybe I'm super wrong.

Macs aren't really known as gaming stations, and since Apple refuses to join reality, it makes programming for a select few sort of a non-issue. Would you allocate resources to a platform that generally isn't known for purchasing games and intentionally doesn't join the world of standardized computing?

500k Simultaneous users? rofl. WoW maybe hits 500k simultaneous users at peak with it's whatever+ millions players. 10% of your player base online at any single point in time is good, 15% at peak. Unless all of your players are from 1 region (like NA, or Europe, or Asia) in which case you might get 15-20% of your users on simultaneously during your peak hours and like 1-5% during off hours.
Eve has ridiculously high concurrency rates (from the way it's designed, it has a great deal of "active" downtime) and it hits 60-65k peak nightly out of 550k Subs.
