What? Which ass did you pull this conclusion from? FF14 has (will have) instanced housing and isn't one server.
'Points to the likelihood' implies a hypothesis, not a 'conclusion'.

Anyway, it just makes sense in my mind.
If the world is as massive as is being implied, that would mean there's a lot of real estate to build housing on - think Vanguard. However, if every EQN player was on one server, no matter how big the world is, there wouldn't be enough room for everyone to build a house. Also, instanced housing seems like something that goes directly against their 'sandbox' aspirations. Which makes me ask myself, why did the make this decision?

I think it's because there is only one server.

The non-instanced content wants to "talk" with you behind the chemical sheds.

Mega-servers aren't possible given that there is supposedly a bunch of non-instanced dungeons but yes servers could be very large. Also PS4 and PC would have to be on separate servers.
There could be multiple phases of dungeons (100 player cap for example) while still being 'open world'. Areas of the world with permanent housing structures? Not so much.

The EQ2 example just doesn't hold water because mega servers weren't a mature tech when that game was in development. A single persistent world just seems to fit with SOEs current MO too.

Trust me, I understand what I'm saying is pure conjecture, but that's what this whole thread has been lol.

There's nothing wrong with conjecture and theorizing. We're just saying that history lends no evidence to your hypothesis.

I dunno, I think my logic is pretty sound on this, but I might be a bit biased

Draegan man, you've gotta do something about the donation interface. It's super ghetto.
All junkies sites are getting revamped once JN.com launches in the next week or so. You can use the donation link at the top of the forums. It's the same thing. Thank you!

Nah. I'm not a computer scientist but I'm pretty sure megaserver wouldn't work with 500,000 simultaneous users on a seemless world with a lot of non-instanced content. I don't care what kind of supercomputer setup SOE uses.

It'll be distinct servers probably with many no longer used EQ1 names: fohguild can regroup on Veeshan 2.0 (I don't think there's an EQ2 Veeshan???).

Would you like to live blog it for us?
I'll be posting in the to-be-created SOE Live Live thread here. So sorta. But wifi internet connection will suck given the 1,000 other laptops in the room which means I'll probably be using my cellphone, so it'll be a little craptastic.

Also twitchtv will be streaming.

Meh, TESO is doing it, and I guarantee they will have a lot more subs than EQnext early on. They also have plenty of non-instanced content.

I thought TESO was pretty highly instanced? EQNext supposedly wont have much instancing. A mega server without a lot of instancing or phasing requires a huge world with hundreds of zones and slow travel, like EvE. Then someway to force players to spread out and stay that way.

EvE can get away with it because creating new solar systems has very little in actual art assests and doesn't take much work. Creating zones for a fantasy based world takes a lot of time and dev resources.

It is still possible that EQNext might have a mega server but I seriously doubt it given the info that has been released up to this point.

I loved mutliple starting areas but always thought it was a waste of dev time. Should just be 3, and have them be cut and paste of each other with different environment. Then at about level 10 or so, it can open up in to a proper open world.
I too love different starting zones, games that condense this to 1 or just a few comes off as lazy to me. There is no reason in having new players segregated to a small piece of land that once you leave you can never return or trivial to the point you may never want to. Thats just poor planning and when making another toon I prefer not wasting time doing the same quests over and over and over again each time I create a new toon! "Rift"

Throw the new players out into the world with seasoned peeps! I prefer the old way of Freeport, Qeynos and Kelethin cities rather than a cave you need to work your way out of. Tuts are one thing, but way too hand holding for me. Part of the adventure was the discovery, I would have never ran into and learned of Fippy or that guards hate you when begging or that you need to remap the damn attack key to something else, or that you can die from falling off the lift.

Granite they wont do this I am sure because they would like to easy new ppl into the game, but would be nice that its simple enough you dont need to.
