Nothing of value was lost. I like the idea of devs posting as much as they next guy, but if they are going to just lie through their fucking teeth with every post then they serve no purpose. You can't have a real discussion with someone if their main goal is to just tell you what they think you want to hear in order to get box sales.

Ut might of been in full attack/insanity mode with Brad/Curt, but they deserved it. If you want to come to this community just to bullshit people then you don't deserve respect, or protection. If that means no devs want to post here then so be it. We are better off.

This. I'm sick of this need to coddle devs, in some dumbfounded attempt at getting them to "spill the beans". What the hell kind of information do you think can be garnered from somebody that is only here to sell a product? You think that you're going to get honest answers out of these people? You think that they aren't just selling you a bunch of lies and PR twists? What,exactly, is provided by a dev posting here? You're going to get theexactsame sort of information that you can get off of interviews with them on mainstream gaming websites. Ya, best advice to anyone in the gaming/software field especially as a dev is to NOT admit to who you are on any forums. This goes for on here or anywhere else. Just look at the Fez II thing in the past few days as a shame example in both directions.

As a dev, first create a normal account and never state who you are, being a lurker or as a Common Joe knowing what you say is open game. Second create a dev/company generic account for announcements, general questions and limited social affair never taking the bait others throw out. Figured this would be common knowledge by now.

Community is great to pull from but you have to have a filter. Anyone who has a business knows this or has ran into this. You know, that one guy that states you should do this or that with your company but has limited knowledge as to how things work. Much like running into a AD&D guy in the comic store and droning on and on about his adventures. Some stories are great but most are not.



Ya,the comment about digging thru all the crap on the forums is tedious at best but if someone is looking for something, its just the nature of things. With that brings a reason to do so. Better to dig thru arguments on subject players fight for rather than pages of lip service with everyone agreeing on things and no one willing to break the mold or pages of personal attacks. Seen more fighting over a play style and design than personal attacks here. It all happens on most all forums but others tend to be way worse and sometimes die off with a lack of continuing the thread.

Full agreement. I don't like personal attacks or ripping people/games just to be a dick, but if you force people to be super nice and kiss their asses they become less like discussions and more like press releases

Actually, they should. They provide real insight, and not made up bullshit or fake 'insider' information. Give me PR spin over some angry guy carpet bombing a product he pretends to know something about any day of the week.

It won't happen because Draegan can't see the forest for the trees and is too busy with his little group of refugees to create an environment like early FOH where we had real info and not a few asswipes making a toxic environment for game discussions, let alone actual dev interactions.

I agree that he gets a little too emotionally invested in it, but I just can't bring myself to feel sorry for them. Scott Hartsman posted like one of the boys for a long time and he was treated pretty well I thought. Devs would be treated just fine here IF they keep it honest.

Pretty much. I mean, the problem is obvious. Even if you have a "grow thicker skin" or "take or leave it attitude," it's not hard to see why developers opted to leave it. It's not my community to moderate by any means, but when a forum is receptive to full blown attacks on people that go far beyond calling even their product some random assortment of expletives, developers will never visit (or certainly not participate).

Like Brad, someone who is still in career recovery mode, damn sure wouldn't post somewhere that routinely brings up his drug addiction and most miserable moments in life. There's certain benefits of having a borderline mod-free environment, but holy shit are there detriments, too.

They weren't doing this. Take off the rose-colored glasses for just a second. They were PRing the hell out of the place. It was nothing but buzzword after buzzword and the vast majority of their posts read like a press release. Like Lost said, Hartsman kept it fairly "real" and was treated pretty well. He left once he got busy with Rift. People like Brad and Curt deserved every bit of hate and vitriol they got. Did it need to get personal? Absolutely not. But these guys need to be called out when they keep churning out shitty product after shitty product. It's why the MMO genre hasn't really taken any steps forward since 2004-2005ish. You guys keep lapping up their bullshit.
