EQ Never

  • Guest, it's time once again for the massively important and exciting FoH Asshat Tournament!

Go here and give us your nominations!
Who's been the biggest Asshat in the last year? Give us your worst ones!
Also, I really hope if they do want everyone to DPS the mobs, that there are classes that shoot out heals and buffs for DPSing, like some kind of lifesteal. Only selfheals and selfbuffs are pretty lame. I don't have that much of an interest in playing any DPS classes.
I agree with you if heals are restricted only to yourself. From what I understand all classes DPS, but they also all have at least one utility role. I would imagine clerics, priests, etc. have utility spells which can throw out heals, along with healing spells from your wand-of-healing or whatever. Or classes like Vanguard's Bloodmage, which was an awesome class and your healing was tied to your dps output.

They said they don't want a dedicated healer role. So there won't be a person who doesn't do anything but heal.

I think that's fine. Right now my Monk in WoW wears mostly DPS gear. There's some survivability increases by doing damage, but it's also becoming increasingly important for even tanks to put out maximum damage.

Why can't a Cleric smite an enemy with Holy Fire, while fortifying their groups armor, and healing up damage taken? I kind of like the idea of everyone being involved in fighting.
If a cleric can heal up damage taken in the group, then that would be a dedicated healer role and they stated they did not want that.

But there will be no tanking, DPS, or crowd control. You might be called a Warrior or a Wizard or whatever but it means nothing. All that matters is you hold mouse button one and you fly through the air, destroying mobs and the ground and everything in a 1 mile radius. All mobs die in explosions. Nobody needs to tank, or control, or do anything because there are essentially no enemies.... everything dies in a second. The only way to get hurt is to go afk or something.

Remember - mouse button 1 - everything dies. That is the modern way.
Wait for beta

Hope they don't follow GW2's route then. Because while classes could build a healing setup, it was pointless. The same with a damage sponge build. There was just no point.
Simple. Make sponge and healing builds contribute in other ways as well. Casting Holy Fire on a mob burns him, but any attacks against him heal the attacker. Or perhaps an AE heal also increases cast and attack speed of group members. And as I said before, absorbing damage as a warrior could 'enrage' them and increase their damage output.

I bet most people like Holy Trinity. The large majority are DPS and like that they can just sit back spamming spells while they jerk off. Heaven forbid they actually have to have a fucking pulse to be successful at raiding.
And one of dumber post in this thread. The people that like holy trinity are people who like healers and tanks and like the interdependence that happens with them, its the DPS that don't like it, because they are a dime a dozen.

I think most of the optimism and such in this thread come from the few that are so already emotionally involved they cannot fathom or handle it going badly. I will give SOE major kudos if they pull this off(even if they fuck it up after launch), but their own reputation and their developer's reputations and the genre itself are stacked against them a mile high.

40+ classes, pretty positive I won't be playing the game. Wtf do mmos these days insist that you be able to play every single role. I'm tired of being forced to play a role to fit the guild because all you need to do is respec and you have to play a class completely different from what you started with... and actually wanted to play.

Screw leveling characters, once you have a max level, you can play anything... or be forced to play something.

Players on this board and FOH before it have been screaming that DEVs keep following the same model over and over again. Now that a DEV team has the balls to change things up you are all screaming about them changing things...

I shouldn't be surprised after all these years being part of this community but WTF!

wait, did i mishear something? ... so you could be a mage, and be getting warrior achievements/genericachievemnts that unlocks higher tiers? ...if so, seems fundamentally wrong. darkfall does this (and tsw?). ung. i get why they do it but it devalues the achievement when you can get it from any class.

I'm not necessarily a trinity fan but I like assigned roles. I think it help identifies your character and generates ownership. I guess they'll still have definitive roles but I don't like the whole "your character can do anything" concept. I think they have over complicated things a tad. Not only do you have all these layers to your class but each weapon defines your abilities. I just want to be a cleric and do what a cleric does. I want everyone to know if i'm a skilled or unskilled player. I want groups to look for me if they need healing. It sounds right now you can simply just "get by" with anything.

We'll see come beta. I think all this is currently concepts and words in the air. We'll see implementation goes.. If I was SoE, I would listen very closely to their player base. Not the squeaky wheels either but the people legitimately and constructively offer advice. However, I think what we may say is the minority. I'm curious to hear the echoes of the people at SoE Live. Tad, what's the general consensus feeling so far? Anyway you could line item some of the main points out and give us a reaction to each?

It's best if you just completely ignore qwerty as he has dicks in every orifice possible right now making him cranky.

its going to be more like lol. Some class combos are not going to be able to kill particular mobs. See the magebane example

Whats changing? I'd say the only "new" is destructible terrain and a separate minecraft game able to import assets into EQ:N.

Everything else has been done before. You might get a different wrapper but that's it.

Though IF and its a giant if , they can pull off a extremely smart AI like they are promising, then they can add that notch to their belt.

Don't worry they will sell re specs in the station cash store, same with healing potions since they don't want healers to lulz.

Normal warrior asskicked by casters mob or pc but can kill rock golems. Magebane loadout kills casters but roflstomped by rock golem.

There's a difference between being able to heal, and HAVING to heal.

The damage could be mitigated in ways than just healing.

During the panel they also said you would be able to play a support type class but they still want you "in the action" whatever that means. When I think of support classes I think of things like guard, heals, buffs, shields, etc.

They are more or less the only posts in this entire thread that are actually correct. I know you don't get it now. That's ok.
Dude, when you're being a bigger troll than Utnayan, then it's time to evaluate things.

I know you're salty because it didn't turn out how you wanted, but for the love of god, take a big deep breath and relax.

1. Can we please have an EQnext sub forum? This thread is getting bloated.

2. Some good has come from all this based on the reactions on various MMORPG communities. That is, demand exists for an old school true EQ successor. It may be limited, but it's there. Something else that currently exists? Kickstarter. Are there talented people on this board (or others) that recognize this demand and could make something of it? I certainly hope so.

I'm glad that they are making it so you don't need to stare at your action bar the entire time. I hate having to do that. I'd rather look at all the pretty sparklies instead of button refresh times.
