Wait for beta
Beta means nothing. Like I said, GW2 was amazing in the beta. Mobs kicked my ass and it made the whole game in to a kind of survival experience. I could even go along with the lame little jumping puzzles if it was in a world like that, because every little journey was scary.

Then all the pussy little WoW players complained that it was too hard, and they TOTALLY changed the way it works for release. Ruined the entire experience.

And one of dumber post in this thread. The people that like holy trinity are people who like healers and tanks and like the interdependence that happens with them, its the DPS that don't like it, because they are a dime a dozen.

I think most of the optimism and such in this thread come from the few that are so already emotionally involved they cannot fathom or handle it going badly. I will give SOE major kudos if they pull this off(even if they fuck it up after launch), but their own reputation and their developer's reputations and the genre itself are stacked against them a mile high.
I'm usually always an MT/OT. I make that comment as someone that actually has to know an encounter in and out, whereas most just skate by with the 1 min explanation before we engage. I guess I just don't see the problem with expecting every player to be skilled with their character and knowledgeable of the game instead of relying on others to carry them. I think it's kind of a fail design to have only 2 rolesreallydetermine whether content is killed.

As an MT so it does kind of suck to be losing that role. But I'm honestly open to new ideas. If I can still protect my team mates in some capacity, then I'll give it a go.

And emotionally involved? I expected the game to be dog shit. I'm actually pleasantly surprised that they even have goodideas. I have my doubt if they'll be able to live up to what they've promised though, at this point. A lot of them comments they've made sort of reinforce that it's still so early and half these things they are 'doing' aren't even established systems yet.

This is just 1 example of a healer type.

In every MMO that I have played always had a shaman alt from everquest to everquest 2 to vanguard.

Shamans can slow, lots of buffs, heal some, pet,lots of Utilty spells etc

They aren't great at healing or dps but they are fun as alt, seen some players play them as mains they can do some crazy shit even with them.

My point is do the realize that some players want to play healers and tanks, none them want to sit look at there heal bar all the time, even a pure healer but at times they have Np doing there roles as well.

This is my issue of many with Gw2 shit system of course since they have no raids, no real dungeons at launch, and even now they don't need to worry about ever having real healer.

Also guess SOE could just start selling healing potions with CH heal complete heal in them.

During the panel they also said you would be able to play a support type class but they still want you "in the action" whatever that means. When I think of support classes I think of things like guard, heals, buffs, shields, etc.
support class like a shaman or mysic,defiler same thing a lot of us love to play them as alts.

There really should be a hardcore server, where the enemies have more HP, hit a lot harder, and there are old penalties like losing your corpse at death, etc.

It would probably go a long way to please everyone.

I don't see why they wouldn't put those types of classes in the game. With 40 to pick from I fully expect those to be present. Not being able to be a dedicated healer doesn't mean there won't be a cleric.

I hold major reservations about the game because they are implementing features (or at least variations of those features) that have failed in the past but other games have tried to implement eq features and have not done so well either so there is room for a game to suck or be good with any myriad of gameplay features. My biggest question is what is it with your insistence on trying to convince everyone the game does and will sucks dick balls? Why not just forget about it and let it ride its shit stream downhill?

I'm curious just how many people are going to play other MMO's now. I know several of my friends were awaiting EQNext's timeline. It appears to be a long ways off and now that we know what we do, it will be interesting to see how people will try other games just to compare concepts. People may just attempt to become vested in another game now just because they are abandoning ship. (Though I highly doubt very many of us will completely pass on EQNext) I know I will personally be waiting to play beta before I pre-order or at least see some concrete decision in-game.

Or what if the game is really hard and they have a special "Beginner" server for the kids/wives. Everyone is assuming the game is going to be faceroll easy. I have friends who think the 'high end content will be beaten within two weeks of release'.

Sell heals in the store, really? Watching the panels it sounded like they want every class to have some form of dps but putting those defensive abilities (including heals) isn't out of the question. What IS out of the question is standing back staring at bars playing whack-a-mole and healing. That could change of course based on feedback but I personally don't believe it will.

When doing a first premiere display presentation, the goal posts aren't generating a "wait and see" attitude in your playerbase. That's regressing all of the hype and hope buildup. There are plenty of different designs that could knock it out of the park, there are numerous other aspects that could be focused on that wouldn't immediately alienate the diehard fans who actually show up in person to these types of events.

The response is loud and clear: Sony dropped the ball on their reveal and their event. If this is the best they could do by August, they should have scrapped the pool party and waited for better.
