Because when they made WoW people quit those more hardcore games in the hundreds of thousands.

Hardcore like EVE might even be successful. Hardcore like EQ definitely wouldn't be. EQ even in a straight re-release would be played in such a different way by its players today compared to 1999 that it would need major overhauls. And sadly wow made those overhauls and WoW classic is about as hardcore as you could get before the whole thing just turned into a steaming pile.
Again you make too many assumptions and false statements. First you assume that everyone wants a EQ reskin yet nobody is asking for an exact copy with new graphics. But you continue to make that false statement as the premise for your whole argument. Continue to do that and you will be considered as nothing more than a troll. Or you could acknowledge what we are ACTUALLY saying and build your discussion from there.

Well, I'm not one of those asking for a total reskin of EQ with only updated graphics. I do think there have been many advances in mmos since EQ's release that are good things. And I am reminded of them everytime I go back to EQ for a short nostalgia trip.

However, there are many things about EQ Classic that have been lost that I think should be revisited. The exact details of what to keep and what to update are personal preferences, but the general overall sense of danger is what I liked most about EQ Classic. I have never felt that danger in any mmo since then except in EvE, and that was because of PvP.

Having that sense of danger in a PvE mmo is the real goal. So for me personally, when I say hardcore I mean getting back that feeling. That feeling is one that many people would pay dearly for. Movies make billions selling entertainment that builds suspense, mystery and the feeling of danger. Mmo's could be making a lot more revenue if they did too.
I don't want to hang on the words of the developers but so far during the panels there have been multiple statements about conveying that sense of danger. How relevant on the side of hardcore does that danger need to be in order to get the message across and be fun?

Wrong. They stated specifically there is no gear progression tiers and killing gods and boss mobs was a thing of the past.
Again, not sure why I'm wasting my time - But there is gear progression. But it's not just +Better Stats.

Gear instead affects your abilities in much greater ways, and help you to be more effective at your class. The example was a shadow-teleport called Path of Shadows, which had a high energy cost. When a Rogue used it, they couldn't immediately capitalize on the teleport by using Backstab. However, this can be fixed with itemization but using gear that reduces the energy consumption of a teleport-type abilities. Someone who itemizes in this way will most definitely be a better Rogue in this specific playstyle.

Now imagine gear that works like that, with thousands of ability combinations. Yeah, progression is going to take a while if you want to be more than a one trick pony.

Game isn't going to bust. Voxel based games are hot right now. EQ:N will be the first AAA mmorpg voxel based game. Smart move by them. They will get a ton of players who normally wouldn't play an EQ/mmorpg type game by just being a voxel game.

Yeah, I'll believe it when I see it. But even if they don't provide that sense of danger, I'm sure I will enjoy EQNext just because it seems like it will be different from the pack. So 2 or 3 months of fun anyways. But if they can bring back that sense of danger then I could see being there longer than that.

Before we knew what EQN was there was some serious speculation it would be EQ++ and it was still hyped heavily on gaming sites. Bottom line is until a true EQ sequel releases that is polished at a playable level we just won't know..

That said. EQN is a wait and see. I think they dropped the ball at SoE live a bit and the reveal didn't seem to capture the audience as much as they were hoping. Don't give up so soon on EQN guys. It's early and thing can possibly change with feedback(naive much?!). You never know.

Everyone knows thers never gona be a true EQ sequel. Ppl were still willing to play it because it well looks cool. But I just get the impression they are trying to get a F2p out there that a bunch of random ppl that don't normally play MMO's very much can jump on and buy some bag slots. They don't care to make content that people are going to want to play through like raids its not worth it to them. The only thing that really pisses me off is Georgeson talking about "this game will be the last game that people play like eq1" it will have 30 expansions,.. give me a break this is a failed project they are just trying to push out the door to make some last min scrill. And its fucking disgusting they got every award and don't even have a game. So you can basically go to e3 and be like i'm gona make a game thats fucking so sick, ppl can like fly and kill gods with their friends and then you can make a pink warrior and run through the world with a miniskirt and candy cane raping face. Make a 30 second demo zone that has a scripted encounter. Wait thats what eqn did.

What do you guys really want then?

Most of what made EverQuest fun and challenging (beyond the social aspect) was in really pushing the envelope of what your class could do, exploiting it's capabilities to the fullest - Quad Kiting, Charm-Kiting, etc. Is the game still going to have the same magic when things like that are designed rather than being simply player ingenuity? I honestly think it was just lightning in a bottle that probably can't be fully recreated, even in spirit.

I don't really look back on boring static camps and extremely basic combat with much fondness, personally.

And yes I know its not actually final. Just hilarious that its even a decision, but you have that ugly ass kerran race.

"What kind of difficulty can we be expecting here? There's a lot of commentary about how MMOs feel a little too easy. Where does Everquest Next sit on the scale?"

"Well, risk and reward is what MMOs are all about. I would not call this game a hardcore MMO. We want something that is accessible to a larger number of people but we want to make sure it's balanced with good gameplay and interesting things that will keep people interested." - Terry Micheals

http://www.usgamer.net/articles/ever...g-from-gnolls-

"We want the classes to be both iconic and interesting to players so there will be classes that have particular focuses on what they do. There may be a class that is more damage based and avoidance based. There can be another one that can absorb damage or what would stereotypically be called a tank. What we don't want is players to have to fall into their roles." Michael begins.
I said in the past I was expecting a gw2 clone and that's what we're getting sadly.

I'm actually surprised how continually optimistic Tads comments are. This game is everything he hates.

And yeah that 50 hours of Eve tutorials is something I'm starting to think of about now.
Most old EQ people probably cant handle EVE, considering they prefered to play on their blue servers despite the option of playing (later on) several PVP-enabled rulesets. Unless you stick to Ehigh sec PVE, and then do yourself a favor and just go to EQMac, because EVE for high sec PVE is only scratching the surface.

There has been many ideas posted throughout this thread about what people would like to see again. A random sampling of pages should bring you across them. Suffice it to say, nobody was asking for static camps.

Short of sheer idiocy , I can't see why they wouldn't put out both a much harsher PVE ruleset server and PVP ones. If the whole idea is to make it as sandboxish as possible , and the way they've touted different phases/events going on in different ways on different servers , why not put up a couple "here you can demolish the world and each other have it at it" server set ?

Soccer mom , I don't want death penalties , and I got touched by the PVP man here ,players all would have theirs fine and dandy and be in ToonTown and happy , while the more hardcore PVE/PVP crowd would at least have an option.

And if they are planning on doing this why not just state it.

This whole theme of "you must be a child to like this" is pretty damn insulting. You've gone to that resource a few times before. It has no basis in reality. WoW players are on average 30. MineCraft players probably have a higher average age. And you've yet to once demonstrate your mental superiority that might support your making this argument.

How cool COULD the parkour thing be. Maybe put in a traveling skill bar instead of flying mounts. Give ppl the option to do some gangster parkour moves not automated shit. Amazing idea. Put another skill bar and put like 5 moves that you can only do OFF objects. Put like a grab and swing, a jump with a flip or something, some crazy moves just like parkour then incorporate that into dungeons and raids and shit how cool would it be to see ppl climbing up stuff and jumping through tree's and objects flipping and shit. That could be an awesome element if they would have took it a step further.
