Actually, opposite of this, finding abilities in the wild is one of the things you need to unlock tiers. Abilities, Items/Gear, Achievements and ??? (I posted it here from the Talisker pool party session).I didn't really get the impression that the Class Ability slots changed through tiers - it just unlocked more abilities for them to be able to put in the slots.
Sorta there. Rogue slots a movement spell that is too expensive to use with his backstab. So he has to find items that give him additional energy or lower cost of movement spells. You can't just slot what you want, you have to slot things you can actually play given your current gear. One thing I'd like to see return (but probably won't in EQN), and havent seen anyone talk about... Mana management. .
That would technically work in the system I described as well. And would be awesome.I'm still curious as to if a high tier and low tier player can play together.
Nothing more annoying is deciding to play a game with friends, but you can't because he out levels you or falls behind you. That shit is aggravating.
Which would make sense since they said for example that going from tier 3-4 would require a full set of tier 3 armor. Because you need the set bonus or whatever from the gear to make the tier 4 ability's viable.Sorta there. Rogue slots a movement spell that is too expensive to use with his backstab. They already mentioned that they're making sure everything is great on PC before thinking of consoles. Landmark will likely make it over, but not this year.is there any reason to believe they aren't releasing landmark for ps4 at the same time? Seems odd not to with their winter release date (ps4's debut) and the fact that Sony would want all the punching power possible to take out Microsoft.
Well, considering that it's mostly horizontal progressing - it really shouldn't be like a level 90 grouping with a level 10. As a Tier 5, you should be more effective at your class and have more tools, but not necessarily have a zillion more HP, or do a zillion more damage.I'm still curious as to if a high tier and low tier player can play together.

I don't know about how the xp system works for combat, but since tiering up also requires a lot of non-xp things (items, etc), I don't see why both players aren't advancing.I'm still curious as to if a high tier and low tier player can play together.

Sounds like he is saying they aren't using "same old combat" so roles aren't needed to work. The wording isn't great. Is that saying they do or don't want roles?
but if they are in a non disclosure mode then they are going to bullshit to hide it. If they were to say "we aren't talking about the ps4 version right now" that would give everyone the answer that its coming. I personally don't really believe what they have said since they could just be like "Were happy with the pc landmark version and we are releasing the ps4 version at the same time"They already mentioned that they're making sure everything is great on PC before thinking of consoles. Since I happen to remember it, I'll add there is some weird XP/AA shit that was not explained that you get for (I guess) killing mobs or completing authored content (<-raw speculation about how you gain it, but the existence of the "XP/AA" wtf it is, is not speculation). You get to apply that XP/AA/WTF to any class you want - that's how you can play your Level 4 Cleric but be helping your Level 1 Paladin advance.(since it's gained through milestones like achievements, collecting gear sets, finding abilities, etc).
Caster dps in EQ did way less dps in most group grinds tho, which I think would be an issue. DOTA gets away with it because the point of the game isnt endurance grinding mobs, its group pvp fights. One thing I'd like to see return (but probably won't in EQN), and havent seen anyone talk about... Mana management. Ie. a mana bar that doesn't auto-replentish to full in between every single fight, making your ultra-inefficient spells actually situational rather than just part of a monotonous spell rotation.
Theres been a lot of talk about how DOTA has been a point of inspiration for some of the ideas. Well it's kinda funny how DOTA, an action non-persistent game that takes 30-40 mins to play on average, puts more emphasis on efficient mana usage than any fucking MMO since the original EQ. I kxnow 'downtime' is one of the many demonized MMO concepts, but I really miss gameplay where you had to make a choice between efficiency and potency, rather than everything distilling to a single optimal spell rotation that never has to be adjusted.
They're saying that old combat mechanics is why roles work. IE: Guild Wars feels lame because they changed how classes work without fundamentally changing combat mechanics. They believe their combat and AI system will work with their roleless multiclass system. Is that saying they do or don't want roles?
There is static content in the world. So I've heard on GAF that dungeons are procedurally generated? I don't know how I feel about this.
Also, have they decided to use instancing or not yet?
