Sometimes I worry that EQNext and EQNext: Landmark are running a very similar course to what Dawn and Racewar Kingdoms did......

I want this combat explanation/damage control video Georgeson promised.

Also, if you want to know what EQN will be like, see CubeWorld.

I have no clue what those even are, so the fact that you're worrying about it makes me worry even more!

A question...for the guys trashing this game that you've never played. Do you have any hope left in life? The original one was magic in a bottle. Don't you want to root for Magic in a Bottle 2.0?

Some of you have become so cynical, that I wonder if you've lost your soul.

On the subject of ogres, I feel like they could take care of a lot of the complaints if character customization was robust enough to allow for different body types within the same race. 'Fat' should be a viable option for a number of races, which obviously includes ogres, even if it's not the case for all ogres.

I'm more interested to see how this class/combat system plays out in the game. For instance, in EQ players came up with unique ways to kill shit.. AoE groups, quading, kiting, etc.. Even in rift with my Warlock/Chloro build I could run around like a crazy person and AE dot/heal a shit ton of mobs. Figuring out unique ways to beat encounters is what separates players. I'm hoping this setup will lead to those types of things. Players soloing high level group mobs or even raid mobs. small groups taking on a high level raid zones. etc..
Ukerric already laid it out. You've got 40 classes but at the end of the day you're going to build out a....

Tank, Healer, DPS or Support class from your selection of class & abilities. Whether they will be effective at Tier 5 will depend on what items, skills and classes you've gotten. The effective Tank will have grabbed some tank classese (Paladin) a little DPS to hold agro and maybe some kind of CC (stun) in addition to a weapon based stn. The effective healer will have grabbed a bunch of healing classes and maybe a little CC or movement skills to make sure he can get away if the mob targets him. Rinse & repeat. Everybody's a WoW Druid++ and can tank/heal/cc or dps based on what they've currently slotted - they just can't effectively do all four simultaneously.

Crafting Resources. They specifically said all resources are the same "value" - not SWG. So all copper is copper. The difference is copper Tier 1 resource is going to be needed on Tier 5 crafted items.

Leashing. There is no mob leashing currently in the game. That's not how the combat AI is supposed to work. I assume your only hope is running back to the guards?

@Dragoon. Not everyone will have blink. Blink is a movement skills. The mob was being piloted by a dev, no combat AI, they went for Sound & Fury because it was a demo. Most combat will look nothing like was demonstrated. /aside I feel this was a huge mistake by SOE. They should have shown another video of actual combat.

@Someone. Energy and Endurance are the current "pools". I heard mana mentioned as well, but I'm pretty sure mana = energy. I could be wrong.

@ZyyzYzzy FD better be in this game.

@Convo. Yes he did.

@Dragoon. You're an idiot. EQN/L may end up bigger than EQN.

I wonder if "Justin" would be upset if SOE decided that letting the players decide is a great idea. Then sat down and listened to players who don't think like him.

I'm sure Justin feels that when you emphasize how much of this game is "ours" and then speak for the players in a tweet, he wouldn't mind seeing evidence that this is the case. Seriously, it'd just take one of their fluff polls. And if it was overwhelmingly lopsided, then smart Ogres are in. Or just state: "hey guys, this is what we're doing because fuck off" and it'd be the end of it.

Don't confuse one tweet with the inability to admit that I'm in the minority or unwilling to accept that people don't think like me.

Amazingly, the fighter tanks the mob and the dps ranger stays back. Who could have imagined -_-

Also looks fun!

I just get a bad feeling with that Rosie lady being the art director. I watched part of the world building panel, and she mentioned how she had to start googling for random images to know what to build next.

EverQuest is an existing franchise. It's okay to shake some things up, but there's a limit. Making races not resemble existing incarnations is one of those things that's over the line for a game having an existing title on it. The characters and people we interacted with were a large part of what we identified and connected with.

Instead of someone who had that connection to the franchise, it seems like they got someone who was just a (probably talented) art director, and said "make a fantasy RPG. Oh and one of the races is cats.". Before you go off making a sequel in an existing franchise, you should spend a lot of time IN that franchise (playing the existing games). And maybe she has - I just didn't get that "vibe" from her presentation.

Of course, if the gameplay is amazing, it'll still be a great game, and worth playing. But it won't feel like an EverQuest title.

Seamless destructable Voxel-based sandbox multiplayer rpg with action combat, no trinity, pvp, and heavily based on digging, crafting, and exploration. Sounds familiar.

If there are no static encounters or iconic named bosses, but who was allakhazam?
There are static dungeons and static raids in the game. As well as authored quests where the basic quest is the same (get relic at bottom of mine) but they mechanics change due to the dynamic AI. However some/many/most of the authored quest may require some/a lot of roleplaying. E.g. getting the rogue class if you don't pick it as your starter will require you to behave badly.

There is also theoretically an infinite amount of dynamic SB quests but we'll see how that goes.

In other words - yes you can go kill Nagafen in the game. The only question is, does he stay dead, and who replaces him if he does?

Your frame of reference changes with technology so the old EQ models look crappy by today's standards but they were awesome for their time. The ogres and trolls had more personality than anything since. I find it hard to believe that people oppose those grotesque, lumbering monsters.

Rosie was the art director of EQ1 and EQ2 and you have no idea how talented her team is. If you could recognize who the people are in that video in the art 'assylum' your jaw would drop. The guy that does pencils? Look him up. Takes years to assemble such an art team.

The less realistic visuals are a result of the fact that every other MMO looks outdated after release and that cartoonish lasts longer. TESO already looks bad. NWN is unplayably bad. You can play armchair art director and disagree with her choice but at least understand that they were not pulled out of an ass but they are the result of market constraints.

Except for the no trinity part. Cube world has healers (mages), tanks and pure dps and is adding cc. That's the whole freaking point.

Rosie says so. Says "many EQN players" don't want to play big fat Ogres , they want attractive buff ones.

Missed that statement by many EQN players did you ?

So did I.
