EQ Never

I think the "entitled to see" argument can be mostly solved with making lore entirely open to everyone. Raids, and the like, should be entirely lore neutral. I mean even think about it. The ones that care most bout lore, are the casuals, or RP's NOT the hard core raiders.
WoW's design of the "zone leads up to the raid" is nice and all, but it really creates this problem. As well as expansions and advertising revolving around these lore characters, that are stuck behind raid walls.

Remove that, and it just becomes and issue of "do I have enough to keep me busy?" And smaller gaps in relative power of course.
Eh. if you dont hide everything in an instance it's less of an issue even to lore nerds (like me). Avatar of War is a good example, or Velious in general. Most of the targets sans ST and Ntov (and that giant wizard) were accessible to everyone, just not for a fight. I havent played WotLK but apparently Arthas makes enough appearances to make the lore players without requiring immediate retard mode. As always there's a middle ground. I assume anyone that wants to see Nagafen without raiding him in EQN can rescue kobold maidens from bad wolves until he can go chat with the dragon.

Better than 20 pages of dick swinging theorycrafting combat mechanics that have not even slightly been touched on by the Devs.
is it, though?

I'll tell you I don't trust Rosie Rappaport whatsoever. Not to bash the only female dev, but every single tweet and comment from her I so far am on the polar opposite side of.

She is literally the reason why the Kerran, and armor looks the way it does. She has no place on this dev team producing an EQ title.

The slight edit of the girl's face is pointless. Every character creator has sliders for features. Just make your face skinnier / longer, problem solved. Same thing that glumner wasted his time doing in Photoshop.

She made the original ogres in EQ 1, too. Guess she didn't belong on that team either?

Don't get me wrong, the art direction is a concern of mine too. 100% with you on the Kerran and his armor appearance.

I just dont see the point going in circles talking about combat mechanics / ability slots and all kinds of nonsense that has really not even slightly been explained by the Devs. Once we get a better picture of how that works, then scrutinize it.

I think it was James that mentioned "Lore Mode" a few years back. I always liked the idea. Basically it is raids designed with super casuals/RPers in mind. They get to see the stories they enjoy come to a end without having to be part of a dedicated raid guild. The idea was that the raids would be "fun" for casuals and pretty much wipe proof. The reward would be the lore though. No epic loot, no achievements, no titles, nothing. It is only to see the raid encounters and see a end to the expansions lore. If you want the rewards you have to do the real thing.

Most raiders don't care about lore. They want the challenge, the socializing, and the power. I didn't face Arthas in WoW with some nerd boner because "omgz I was fighting the lich king". The asshole had my weapon. End of story.
I'm not sure casuals are any more interested in lore. I think the main difference between casuals and hardcore players is that the hardcores tend to care a lot more about challenge and competition with other players. I mean, everyone wants to get all the loot, see all the stuff and hang out with their friends/guild. It's just that the casuals will enjoy it more if they can do that without wiping too much and having to learn overly complex strategies. And as long as they get to do this they couldn't care less about competing with other guilds or who gets a world first. We might call this entitlement. However, it might be better if the rewards for being hardcore were mostly limited to stuff that casuals don't care about. Not sure what would work, maybe more visible rankings. NPCs talking about the accomplishments of players. Player names could be used as part of item names. Statues of successful players in capitals. Memorials for server first kills in-game.

My problem with Rosie isn't her choice in art style, I believe that she believes the choice was a wise one. My problem is that her response to it isn't to admit it sucks, or that it'll be changed, but to post "educational" videos regarding art style, essentially stating that the community is just too unsophisticated or too ignorant of art direction to appreciate her stylistic choices, which may be true, but that doesn't matter, people (to paraphrase) "may not know art, but know what they like". When directly questioned specifics of the art style (inc dead horse: Ogre/Troll girth, as a for-instance) she states with certainty what everyone likes or doesn't like.

Yeah, the one that people are signing petitions to get back.
that literally has nothing to do with her art style. It's 100% in context of what an ogre was, roleplay wise. By lore definition, they had their intelligence STRIPPED from them. That's why they look like goofy, fun, idiots.

Can you imagine if she designed the other races in EQ classic?

She was the fucking art director for the entire franchise, man. She had a hand in all of them.
Also kind of funny that when we, on majority, talk about what we want out of an EQ title, what's the first thing people say that they don't care if it's modern/current?

Graphics & art.

well fuck me then, but she's gone wild with tech advances then.
SOEmote bro, the cornerstone of the artistic direction. Ole Ponytail and Rosie said so himself.

Migelito from Ihatemmorpgs.com said it best "Graphics don't matter, unless they're terrible."

When I think of "casual player," I think of someone who doesn't play a lot and I really don't think most of the gaming community fits that description.
