So people are paying SoE to help make the game for them, that they'll in turn pay for, in hopes of receiving royalty payments for their DoorIron_04 creation?

I stopped following EQN shortly after their "No moar Trinity" jazz so I'm just trying to catch up. I thought Landmark was just build tools and was confused why people were paying for it. That's all. Well and some jabs at those would would pay for such a thing.

I know this is a crazy concept, but some peoplelikebuilding and creating things. Go look at the absolutely crazy shit people build in MineCraft...forabsolutely nothing.

And you're surprised that people would want to build shit with the possibility of making money from it or having their creations immortalized in an MMO?

Theoretically. Realistically only .00000000000001% will actually try to make money and take that part really seriously. The rest are paying to mess around in a AAA Minecraft because they do not have the patience to wait until it is released to the public in open beta/release.

Not that I know the state of how or what you can make money on it, but it goes without saying that within the very first few months you will have hundreds, if not thousands of generic art assets. However, some will be upvoted, some will look better than others, and if this thing picks up, with millions of people playing it, and you happen to sit on the royalties of a generic asset, only earning you a few cents per transaction perhaps, that can still turn into big numbers.

Think of it like Skyrim mods. Lots of collection packs, but certain things are put in nearly all of them within the same category. So someone can make a default dungeon kit for 5 dollars with your 5 cent torch in it, you would get royalties for that. Say that remains the most popular kit (once something becames popular, it never fades from those lists. Same 5 star mods are still at the top of the search in Skyrim today as they were years ago), over time, that can give you noticable income depending on how popular it is. Hence, you are more likely to earn money from this Landmark gimmic making the small things that gets bundled up, rather than investing the time to create Lower Guk or something like that, which hundreds will, but few will do good. Getting in a few months after release, or worse still years, you will have little to zero luck getting any item you create upvoted because I am guessing their search engine will be similar to all others, "sort by rating". Few people add the search parameter "new", they'd rather use the tried and trusted "all time" and get the 4 year old 5 star rated collection.

I went Trailblazer, too, for a number of reasons
-While I am not normally one for Alphas post-Champions Online, I am excited to watch this take shape.
-Closed Beta to Open Beta will be a wipe; I don't expect they will wipe again from Open to Live.
-There will be a huge premium on starting early to get choice plots of land. And while doing so for RMV doesn't interest me, getting a good plot does.
-It's more or less the digital Collector's edition for a game I highly anticipate.
-Like Quaid said: Why not?

Whatever. If people want to spend $100 for early access that's their prerogative. I'm just baffled as to why the EQ name is attached to Landmark, shit would have been catchier with the mainstream and pissed off less people who care about the franchise without EQ added on.

I agree with this. Landmark would have been fine.

At the very least they shouldn't have called it EverQuest Next Landmark, just EverQuest Landmark.

By adding the Next, I think they've confused people that they're completely separate games.

Oh you can spend your money how you want, doesn't mean you cant be commented on for it.
Yeah, how dare people spend money on something they want to.

I'm sure you NEVER spend money on something that other people wouldn't.

My favorite part is how they still haven't shown us shit, and their solution to a groaning community desperate to see anything is a collection of bulletpoints priced at $20, $60, and $90. Are they just trolling us at this point?
Nah, not trolling, just basic economics. SOE's primary goal is to provide the absolute least amount of service that their customers still find acceptable, and charge the absolute most amount of money that their customers will pay. And at this point in time (>3 months away from a playable alpha) every $ that SOE makes is proof that they do, at least, know how to sell bridges.

SoE after seeing PS2 population start off strong then quickly crash is going to monetize early and hard in every new game. Starting in alpha it seems. You need to get that money out of players pockets on day one when you have a million players and not wait three months and only have 100k to start pushing new SC items.

It makes sense to sale low level power ups to new players on opening day instead of trying to only sale items to long term players. Of course having levels helps allot with that in that you can sale power item but have them decline in relative power as players level. But SoE seems to have decided to forgo the potential wind fall by removing levels.

They didn't sell us the bridge, they sold us the land to build it.TM

I basically traded in a large portion of my current life for money through having a full time job, and as such I will spend my money however the fuck I want and fuck anyone who tries to tell me how I should spend it. 100 bucks for this would be a pittance for me. Can you even buy bubblegum for that anymore?

You really are slow? I don't give a shit what you spend money on, its yours. But if you come to a forum and tell people "oh I bought it", then prepare for comments, good and bad. I think you are idiot for spending $100 on this and I can guarantee you will even dole out money for EQ:N founders package as well(probably more buy alpha/beta invites), but hey do what you want. Again its a forum and if you tell people something, they are going to respond, don't expect all roses and daises and pats on the back for buying something.
