As it is the FF brand is in the toilet, this movie won't magically get better.

If they have the option to sell to Marvel, which is probably their best option I can't see why they wouldn't take it at this point.

The idea of a business isn't to see how long you can hold onto an ip, the idea is to make money. At this point the brand is so toxic it's hard to see Marvel wanting to purchase it anyway if it wasn't for the other characters tied in.

With all the money Disney has, they should just give Fox a low ball offer to buy an IP that is now useless for the foreseeable future.

The only way Fox can use it is to reboot against in 5 or so years.

They pushed forward with a sequel after the original did terribly, there's still a very reasonable chance they'll push forward with this sequel.

Honestly, I thought them being under the Marvel halo would boost sales of FF. Does your average moviegoer know who owns the rights? My kids see Marvel and pester me non-stop. Actually, come to think of it, they pestered me to go see Ant Man, but not FF. My five year old went on and on about wanting to see Ant Man. He didn't ask me once for FF.

I wonder why that is.

Because they barely advertised FF and basically abandoned the movie a month before the release date because they knew it was garbage?

I think people know which movies are taking place in which universe though, they know Ant-Man is connected to the MCU and they know which of these movies are all part of an ongoing story and are interlinked.

The Redlettermedia guys made a good point that this movie should have been played out like GotG and it would have been a smash but instead they used a hipster director with one movie and a viral video behind him and let him make a FF horror movie.

Then they kick him to the kerb half way through and get someone else in for a bunch of reshoots and you end up with this abomination.

Is it possible that the general populace is getting superhero burnout? Personally, I'm good with all of the 70+ projects on the way.

The lack of audience support for Mr. Trank's movie will no doubt fuel emerging concerns about superhero burnout. Doug Cruetz, an analyst for Cowen and Company, last month pointed to possible but "inconclusive" signs of fatigue in a report, calling it "a trend worth monitoring" because of "aggressive investor expectations." Notably, "Avengers: Age of Ultron," while still collecting $1.4 billion worldwide, had domestic ticket sales that fell 27 percent below the total for the first "Avengers."

I think it's also how the two movies were advertised. Marvel does a great job at injecting humor into their movies and trailers. The Ant-Man trailer ending with a Thomas the Tank Engine train being derailed is a great example of this. Compare that to how dark and dour the Fantastic Four trailers mainly were. I can see where a 5 year-old would want to see Ant-Man but not Fantastic Four. Marvel knows how to give their trailers a "fun for all ages" vibe.

Stupid fucking article. Good movies make money, bad ones don't. If anything would have proved superhero burnout it would have been Ant-Man, an IP your average joe doesn't even know about. Ant-Man has made over 300 million worldwide for what is basically a family film. I don't think anyone thinks the second Avengers was better than the first, surprise it didn't make as much money.

"While we?re disappointed, we remain committed to these characters and we have a lot to look forward to in our Marvel universe." -- FOX chief of domestic distribution

Let's run that through the ole 'spin-slator' and see what comes out:

"We would now very much like to entertain offers for these characters to join with the Marvel movieverse... just like Spiderman... Disney... please? WE WILL TAKE ANYTHING!!!"

I ran it through the spin-slator and came out with:

We are functionally retarded and we definitely think that we're definitely gonna get it right next time.. or maybe the time after that.. but eventually this brand is definitely gonna make a lot of money so definitely look for "2 Fantastic 2 Four" next summer! and then coming to theatres near you in 2020, "Fantastic Four"!

I might stream this movie but don't see why they made it again. I didn't read any ant man and really enjoyed that movie.

Oh lord this was worse than I thought it would be. Truly terrible. I mean it's like they didn't learn a single lesson from all the other superhero movies.

I mean, the main thing is nobody wants to sit through an hour and 15 minutes of origin story, followed up by 15 minutes of crappy action where you kill off the signature villain of the F4. Origin stories are boring as fuck. That's why the first Cap movie sucked so bad, that and the fact that Cap kinda sucked compared to how badass he was in Winter Soldier. Also, that 'its clobbering time' from Thing when he's running up on Doom was unbearable. And that shit at the very end when they're like 'hey lets find a reason to call him the thing and come up with the name Fantastic Four'.

I can only assume that Trank's original version was better, because I can't imagine how this movie could have been worse.

12 years from now when Marvel releases Squirrel Girl and Moon Knight movies for Phase 5 and we're like 'god im tired of superhero movies' Lyrical will chime in and be like TOLD YOU GUYS BURNOUT

*edit*

One of Doom's first lines to Reed in the 2005 movie is about stretching. As bad as that movie is, that's how you make references. Not having this really dark movie where suddenly at the end your mean spirited rock monster who has been doing covert military ops for a year goes 'ITS CLOBBERING TIME'

A 9 on the Tomatometer.
Don't think I've ever seen a score that low, and there have been a crap load of bad movies that have come out over the years.

Eh... It was intended to make money plain and simple. They aren't going to run a mainstream movie into the ground just to hold onto the rights. Fantastic four 2 bombed so bad they scrapped the sequal and had to wait a decade for the heat to die off enough to get ANY traction.
Obviously they want it to make money. They really just need it to break even, which it will probably do once international revenues is factored in.

But not loosing the IP back to Disney due to lack of use, which gains Fox nothing except more competition in the genre, was the reason this movie was released when it was. If that clock hadn't been ticking I doubt it would have come out now, with this story, and with all of it's fucked up director drama.
