I took a mage team with fire nukes to the pumpkin boss, which melted him before his death could go off with chaining. Overall easy enough, and yeah it's a nice quick and easy farm boss. Pumpkin guy does use paralyze, so if you bring a tank (Cecil rocks for this, focus then taunt for a mage team) give your tank paralyze immunity.

Here's what I went with:


No idea why my attacks did not chain properly. Normally I get a 4-chain from two Lightnings and 3 mages, but here I didn't even get the Heat Blitzes to chain and the Firagas didn't chain past 1.

Boring grind event. But at least you just dump your NRG and come back a few hours later to do it again.

Pumpkin Rider Advanced is the best NRG to candy ratio so only do that one once unlocked. Candy rates are pretty good so I'll, definitely, grab all the good stuff.

6* lightning can solo every wave with heat blitz, just bring turbo ethers to keep her charged up. Also, Rosa is really handy lol, I swapped out Lenna. That's for the wave stuff if you can't easily kill the boss.

And as always, Imperil is never resisted.

Also a chirijiraden barrage (Butts, Chizuru, Delita) is great for building up the element chain on the boss. My boss team is Terra, Rain, Vivi, Exdeath, and Butts.

If anyone else is using Lightning with a mage team it's better to debuff with Crushing Blow and then just use Electric Blitz and Thundaga. Same 20% weakness but electric hits harder and I get consistent 2 turn wins with a lot of overkill. With fire I only won in 2 because of counter. I also dumped Vaan for a fourth mage.

Olderion Island part 1 (not the part with ATK materia unfortunately), Great Demon trial (the one with 72 MAG rod reward that you need Throw to beat), and Pro Halloween event are coming on the 27th.

I have Amarant already maxed out (he has throw) and I wonder if he's good enough for the trial, or should I level an Edge. I guess I'll just save the 100 cactuars from the event and decide later. Was kind of hoping to save those 100 cactuars to get CoD to lvl 100 instantly on his promotion day.

I didn't math it out, but is 7 days enough time to finish with this event assuming you skip the moogles? I like to do story content immediately, but of course limited time events take priority.

14 days = a little more than 350k corn. I'm spending 198500 or something like that* so I think doing the new trial and island will be no problem. There's a chance Pro will be even more efficient than Adv, but based on JP events that had the final stage unlocked for week 2 that is unlikely to happen.

I'm planning to use Amarant for the trial as well, unless someone reports in that Void Vessels do the job and in that case Throw won't even be needed.

(* - 1 moogle, 30 burst pots, mask/basket/dagger, 10 tickets, 10 quartz, 20 of each 6* mat, 10 holy/sacred crystals, 10 screamroot/phoenix down/elixirs, 100 gigantuars.)

Yeah, time limited events take priority for me too. So far I've dumped all of my candies into the rest of the Awakening Materials I needed to get Cecil to 6 star. Then I started buying Metal Gigantaurs to level him. He's level 97 now so one more run will cap him. After that I'll focus on the other stuff but I figure getting Cecil to 6 star level 100 is an investment that will pay itself off over the course of this event.

Everyone on Reddit is going nuts over Black Cat Lid (sad that she's supposed to be the booby prize as a 3 star base but is actually the best unit on the banner). I said "fuck it" and did my daily, welfare, pull and out popped Lid. So yeah, done pulling on this banner. Feels good to have a solid team put together and I can save my Lapis for upcoming units.

Maybe I'll do a few daily pulls for a Lid also. Dracula Lasswell wouldn't be the worst thing if he happened to pop out, and Demon Rain I guess can be made into a serviceable DPS since I already have a doublehand materia finished (it should stack with his passive for +100% atk, I think). Guess he would need my Barrage materia too, since he learns no attacks of his own (what a shit design...)

The idea of Rain being a "tank" as he was advertised though is just lol

It's nice that the burst pots are reasonably priced this time around. They're not a huge priority but I'll pick some up down the road after getting better stuff.

I'm actually tempted to keep doing my welfare pulls just for the ~70% chance of an offbanner unit, since Lid's TM isn't bad. If I were to do an 11 pull this week though, it would probably be on the default rare banner instead of this one. Which, of course, I would never do because there are so many shit units out there that paying full price when you don't want anything specific off the banner is completely ridiculous.

First daily pull: Black Cat Lid

Guess I'm done for 2 weeks as well. She would probably outdamage my Bartz (for now) if I leveled her, but I have such a backlog of units to levelup she's probably going to sit at level 1 for a while unless we get a super hard machine boss where her killer skill would make her really shine.

Also, stay away from the non-banner 11 pull option. I did that once thinking it would be a better chance at something like Zidane. Bad mistake, it was 11 units of garbage.

After the ridiculous mats I've been spending on awakens lately, the fact that BC Lid only requires 8/3 Sacred/Holy and no pro mats is just like wuuuuut.

and yeah I'd never waste lapis like that, especially with FF3 right around the corner. The current plan is to draw however many it takes to get Refia (which may get me Luneth in the process), do my welfares on the FFV banner hoping for dupe Butts/Exudesu, and pull til I get Firion and Garland on the FF2 and FF1 banners respectively.

And assuming the update schedule remains mostly accurate, before the Firion banner I'll have to decide whether or not Orurandu is the hill I want to die on.

I got another Luna from my daily. Not sure what I'd do with a second barrage, guess Cecil or Agrias could use it if nothing else (first one goes to Lightning).

Speaking of Agrias, her 6* was announced for JP this week. Long ways off for us, but at least we know it's happening and hopefully she won't suck ass like Vaan did.
