Still plan on playing. Mostly because I'm casual scum and haven't even hit 50 yet. But my goal of getting 50 on each trade skill will be completed before I quit. Feel free to donate some gil to the cause. Only have 90k!

To most the people leaving, were you a part of the group hitting Coil, or are those folks staying for the most part?

Personally, I did some of Coil but that had nothing to do with my quitting. Well, technically part of the reason was that my chosen class turned out to be barely viable in Coil and yet the lead developer insisted it's fine and I'm just a bad player along with everybody else who plays that class, but Coil itself is alright. Bit lazy design and not the most interesting place, but it's not going to be the real endgame anyway. It's alright as a holdover until they release the 24-man content. My reasons for quitting are more to do with the general design of the game and the attitudes of the developers. I'm not even going back to WoW or anything, but FFXIV is worse than WoW in every conceivable way and I'm not going to play a game that's worse in every way than a game I've already grown tired of. This is such a primitive and poorly-made MMORPG that it almost feels like it was designed by people who had never tried an MMORPG themselves but only read a book about the genre. It actually genuinely feels like the precursor to WoW, the game that expanded a little on what EQ invented and then became the stepping stone to WoW which perfected these features. FFXIV really feels ten years old, and not in any good way.

There's usually 3 more months of beta to hammer out the functionally handicapped or unresponsive parts of the engine. Endgame balancing almost always occurs post release since you need a significant amount of max level population putting theorycraft into practical application. There is and will be a lot of comparisons to the TOR release and they will be judged similarly based on how much they accomplish by the second major patch.

But the bottom line is: I ain't playing Wildstar and I'm highly skeptical of EQN at this point.

Except Crystal Tower is supposed to be the content that gears you for BC. BC will still be the end game content. Theyareplanning on adding more turns to BC, as well as the extreme or whatever primals. But the 24 man content will be pre-BC.

I let my account expire. I thought about subscribing, but their page is down. So I guess I may be done.

I just hope more MMOs don't employ level syncing. I don't like the whole mechanic, I love my level 50 going into a 20 dungeon with a friend or alone and destroying the place like I am Rambo. I no longer get epeen boners from wiping a lot on stuff and then winning, I just wanna run some shit with friends thats super easy and lets us talk about which Star Trek movie is the worst without requiring a lot of concentration or effort. Fuck Titan HM. I never am sure if I am in the minority on this or not.

I'm actually a bit with Mala on this one as far as other games go and some of my own reasons also.

Subbing because I've got zero interest in Wildstar unless they Jesus patch it into an almost different game , nor in ESO unless they actually make it seem more pc centric instead of consolized mmo that runs on pcs which is the vibe I got from it ( both full beta accounts not touched for a bit now so who knows maybe they will overhaul both , but short of massive change neither is the game for me).

EQL/N I'll have to dabble in just to see if they can make up for destroying what I think EQ classes and races should look and play like with this promised AI that will change everything. Basically I'm thinking I want to be able to first hand see them fall the fuck flat on the AI and other promises , would love to be wrong and have a fun , open world , good ai and dangerous PVP thrown in , but again highly skeptical.

So FFXIV ARR wins by default, as I enjoy it enough to sub compared to anything else on the horizon. I joined a large guild of casual adults mixed with some with more playtime who run the gambit of all content - with no bitching and screaming about how anyone is getting carried and they tolerate zero drama and chat is fun and reasonable without being too uptight also. That makes the game x 1000 better alone for me.100+ folks online who understand kids/career/mortgage etc and that the game is a game to enjoy without being stressed out ( lots are old EQ and DAOC and L2 folks.) Throw in a couple friendly link shells and I'm enjoying the crowd better than most mmos probably going back to VG.

So actually socializing in an mmo , gasp , with new people makes a game more fun. Not playing it as a big private server with the same 20 folks you've played every other mmo for the past 5 years actually can make it fun , shocking. I also appreciate little things like weather and day and night cycle also which lazy fuck devs in other games gave decided are "too hard" to code.

I definitely see the complaints from max fate grinders who don't give a shit about a virtual world or occasionally just chatting with some new folks in game , but if you enjoy class roles , aren't rushing all the time , and want a somewhat reasonable crowd mix with even outside your guild it's fairly fun.

The greatest thing ever and innovative ? No.

Better than most anything launched in past several years for though.

I just bought this today soley because the complaints are slow combat and no endgame. Sounds like an mmo I might actually enjoy! I cant even play a single round of counter strike without RL interruptions, so my lifestyle has changed my gaming style.

It's $30, and many of us got it for $22.50 on GMG with a 25% off coupon. I didn't sub, but it's was definitely worth my $22.50. It's a lot of fun and very enjoyable.

The game frequently poops red circles that you have about 500ms to start moving to get out of in time. Enjoy!

Looks like some kind of exploit is wild.

Well the On the Payroll IV achievement he got shows he's turning in levequests. It's entirely possible he had enough items from AH or a friend for levequest turn ins. If he had it planned out exactly, he could've turned in x number of HQ 20 leves, x number of HQ 25 leves, etc. all the way up to 50. The only thing that gets me is he did this all within 1 minute according to your timestamp and with the amount of back and forth running from the leve giver and turn in guy in Gridania, that seems super quick.

Yeah there isn't enough inventory space or time for any script to do this. Seems more likely there is some kind of exploit where it isn't consuming materials on turn in and he has a script run it super fast.

the security on the game is a joke. Everyone who has an authenticator thinks they are safe, but they are far from safe. The game uses a unauthenticated SID code to get into lobby and login servers, which is generated from launcher login. This SID string (obtainable via process list) lets you log in from any computer anywhere, its a long string but it is quite deterministic for those who know security stuff. Basically a very similar way to how hackers broke into Rift accounts at launch is present here, and while Rift fixed it within a week I doubt we'll see any fixes for this game. Someone can generate a valid SID string from one account, and then try tiny variations and get into any random account. If someone wants your specific account, they'd just need a way to enumerate the process list and hijack your SID key.

Really the only security at this time is to never logout, otherwise there are a lot of ways to get into your account and an authenticator does absolutely nothing. All the stuff about IP checking is done at launcher time, once you have your SID string it is valid everywhere and anywhere, another "security wut?" FFXIV dumb oversight.

Are they aware of this? Like you said it happened to RIFT too, but a player found it out. Once they knew they fessed up and fixed it pretty quick. Of course all the RIFT white knights insisted people who were hacked were 110% at fault. No doubt the FF14 white knights will be even worse :p

Yea, you are right. The amount of white knighting I just endured when I brought this up in my NeoGAF guild was hilarious. All they did was say "is there proof this has occured?"...or its "non-issue, SE should be working on other things"...or "the chances of that actually happening are so remote as to be impossible". lol.

Considering this is an actual method posted for logging on via Linux without going through the launcher which is buggy in Wine I would guess that they would have to know it.

Well there's ALWAYS waves of "hackings", in everygame, doesn't matter what the security is. Granted it's obviously a lot worse when it's security related, but a lot of the time it's not and people still bitch about the lack of security after reusing a password they used on some shitty gaming website. Like how you supposedly could steal accounts from playing public games in Diablo3. Not saying FFXIV is secure, I don't understand any of the shit that was said but it seems it's as secure as a slice of cheese(not french cheese either but some of that holland shit)

The tradecraft thing looks similar to the bug they supposedly had fixed with selling items faster than you should be able to(which made selling the wet ash shit worth it or whatever and why they froze all the accounts and removed a fuckton of gold from the game at once). Seems like yeah just an instant turn in. You can't do this shit even if you have the leves because it takes at least 30secs to take a leve and turn it in, even a simple one, let alone a triple, since the leve quest giver and the NPC aren't THAT close.

If it's bypassing both the leve allowances and the requirement to have more than one copy of the item it seems like it'd be another infinite gil bug too- since you get get gil from each turnin. Wonder if we'll see the price crash back down on our friendly neighborhood shouters. If this works with all leves and not just one broken one, they could use it at the ones that give tradecraft materials and generate max-inventories worth of fleece/diremite webs instantly too.
