I don't know anything about Beamdog, but I have every expansion for NWN/NWN II and haven't come across anything objectionable.

Hopefully, the newest expansion doesn't have any "message" in it.

Is there something about Beamdog I should know?
Between the Icewind Dale and Planescape: Torment enhanced editions they crapped out Siege of Dragonspear, a really poorly written expansion pack for BG1 that did a very tortured job of creating a direct connection between BG1 and BG2. They also gave Minsc a joke making fun of gamergate and added in a 'btw im a dickchopper' npc which resulted in review bombing and as it stands now a significant portion of the positive reviews are from people who were just trying to counter the review bombing and dont actually have anything positive to say about the game. Even the positive reviews that don't say anything about the controversy don't exactly give it high praise. Trent Oster (founder of Beamdog, original co-founder of Bioware) is a spineless coward so they removed the gamergate joke and moved the "btw im a dickchopper" bit to later in the NPC's dialogue tree so you see it after completing their quest instead of them ambushing you with it like that one character in Andromeda. His sad attempt to appease both sides didn't satisfy anyone.

The controversy is a fairly negligible part of why Dragonspear is bad, it's bad because of bad writing/forcing a bridge between the two games, but it's an indication of what the mentality at the studio was like and given that the studio is in Canada it's a reasonable bet that they've infinitytupled down on hiring woke trash in the six years since then. It will be a very pleasant surprise if Doom of Icewind Dale isn't injected full of modern audience bullshit.

Hmm, ok. I'll hold off playing the expansion and check out the reviews.

I definitely don't want to support soy-cuck developers and will return it if there's any 'message' in it.

The interesting bit about that story is that it was a semi ok game that had a small but decent population, then they did a big rework patch to coincide with the steam release a couple months back(it used to be standalone, then went to epic store) but at the last minute they completely gutted a lot of the changes and added a ton of ass microtransaction shit and it got a lot of negative feedback obviously making their steam launch completely flop(not that it'd have been stellar otherwise but still certain didn't help). Coincidentally, they had just received major investment by some cryptoscam company, so it's likely that was pushed specifically by some cryptobro to make more money, and ended up instantly killing the game.

Generally the game was plagued with bad timing too. Releasing only a few months before MHW(on PC, after on consoles).

Cities:Skylines was the same way.

EDIT: Also, Stellaris, LOL.
ya after not playing stellaris for like 5+ years, I think i had to spend over $100 to upgrade it to modern and that was during a sale of some sort, woulda cost at least twice that.
