So unrelated to recent episodes: My buddy is in prison and I just got a letter from him. Apparently they watched season 2 recently there. He's not much of a reader but he's had some time to kill. So the last letter had like a 2 paragraph rant bitching about everything that's been changed from the books. Specifically Tyrion not losing his nose.

I think the nose thing is because it would be a hassle to deal with the makeup for it all the time and also no one wants to see that in every scene. It's one thing to have it described and then ok he is really fucked up but to have to stare at a hole in his face every scene i think would be rough.

The Unsullied thread on tvwithoutpity has alot of really good predictions, from people that I am pretty sure are legit nonreaders. The signs are all there at this point that Dany can understand them. After all, they are speaking Valyrian and the Targs are from old Valyria, she knew what Melisandre said after she was bought also without translation.

If the slave army training guy is dumb enough to sell ALL of his slave army and leave his city defenseless I am sure he would have been taken long ago. Seems like too obvious a thing to happen so hopefully something far better happens. I mean really I think I would be pretty let down by a scene that went like this: Dany - "so these are all your slave warriors?" Dude - "yes every single one of them" Dany - "OK well I guess I am now in charge of the city then" Dude - "Damn I never thought of that, well I guess you got me"

Tell him to reread the books. If he was a true Tyrion purist he would be more upset that Dinklage looks too normal to play Tyrion in the first place. He is in jail so he has plenty of time.

Haha. I just finished watching a torrent of it. I'm assuming the regular broadcast had fucked up sound at the end where it cut to The Bear at the Maiden Fair too early, so you missed the last few lines? And Jaime getting his hand cut off? Was kind of jarring, but a little hilarious.

They really need much longer shows. Barely enough time to hit on every character (and they don't).

My wife said it made the whole thing even more twisted, I agreed. I'm glad they went with that choice for music.

Well, they have worked out that Dany isn't going to actually lose a dragon. However, my nonbookreader friends all think that the dragon is going to attack Krazyns and fly back to Dany. So I still think many people will be shocked when Dany does far more than that.

If you ask someone who isn't fluent in Spanish what "hola" means they could probably tell you. It might just be a common phrase, especially for someone who grew up on that continent.

But you're probably right that she does understand and is playing dumb. It's hard to believe that, growing up in Essos, she didn't learn at least one language besides the common tongue. She has the capability, she picked up Dohtraki pretty quickly.
