Guys guys GUYS

GRRM was like "LOOK AT THIS WORLD! WITH NO MAGIC"... I mean he did start the entire damn thing where some dudes that got 2 pages of back story where instantly killed by magic "others" that came outta nowhere...

But NO MAGIC and POLITICAL DRAMA is the CORE OF THE SHOW..ERR BOOK

No, GRRM has a talent of thread weaving but does not know how to sew up the ends other than killing someone off. He got popular fast and it "forced" his hand to make more than he really should have... to focus on the ultra awesome political stuff and tons and tons of interweaving plots! Yes he based stuff on the war of the roses- most fantasy has a slight foundation in some or many historical events.

People getting mad that magic is there and spoiling the plot...well sorry, its only how everything started and its how everything will end.

The first 5 seasons sure. These last two? Lazy writing with a few "wow" moments.

If that's your idea of "best show on television right now," you're welcome to that opinion. I'd rather watch an episode of Friends.

Season 6 was much better than Season 5. S5 was a real low point and the only season I am yet to re watch

Don't care, EurVictarion already had multiple damn fleets fucking shit up everywhere in the books. He took over the Ironborn not long after Blackwater/Red Wedding.

I find the Greyjoy shit uninteresting. Pirates are cool. Krakens? Even cooler man. But their story and characters? Don't care.

I thought Victarion was lame in the books he was cut from the show for good reason. All he basically did was win a sea battle get burned and cry about Euron being a pedo and saltwife fucker.

The Iron Islands and Krakens look cool in the show but are way the fuck more well done in the books. In the show they're just all over the place (plot-wise and literally) and seen to largely just be random cameos for effect at this point.

As the story starts getting towards the end a lot of the characters and plotlines are devolving into that though. Littlefinger, the Hound, etc.

I dunno. I just watched Season 5, 6, and caught up on 7 over the past few weeks because I have conceded that the books are probably never happening so may as well get some closure and it's just overall very disappointing. It's not bad (except for the latest episode, that was legitimately bad almost all around), but I don't think a big "scene" once per seasons justifies calling it great, either. It really feels like running past the books has hurt the quality of writing a lot and I didn't even like the last 2 books that much.

Part of the problem is that the story at a certain point became about the main characters we have now. Mistakes used to matter, getting outplayed mattered, not so much now. Early in the story its was all fair game for every main character. Now that we're into the heroes of legend portion it's nowhere near as compelling. They won't even kill Theon for fucks sake. I'll be surprised if they don't end up saving Yaras worthless ass(not referring to her actual ass in the leather pants, that was money). It does have to boil down to certain characters, sure, but it's also less interesting now than when we already knew the story.

Varys and Baelish reduced to spectators is almost as criminal as Tyrion watching turtles.

The source and the show aren't without their flaws, heh.

Okay except novels 1-3. Holy shit what a run.

I imagine season 8 will be character deaths and dramatic scenes of battle. We will be left with a few of them left freezing to death while some unknown boy tells whoever remains he is hungry right before a dog eats him.

Meanwhile on the other continent, life is good. Slave masters are happy and life is back to normal, be it a bit cooler.

Can someone give me a specific example of the "lazy writing" and how they would have made it not lazy?

Pretty much this. Streamlining and shit to condense plot lines is absolutely necessary. Don't have to like it but it had to be done.

I don't fault too much about it because it is entertaining. But since we are so late in the game there will be some hamfisting going on that there is really no way around.

Every time a scene transitions, a character could talk about how many months its been since five minutes ago!

And Cercei can stop wearing the same Darth Mourning outfit. It has to smell by now.

Sure. Anything ever written by you. Fixed by not being written by you
Adorable, but I was seriously asking. People here just toss around "lazy writing" like a buzzword because they either are not paying attention, or just have sharp knee-like, minor quibbles that are somehow show destroying for them.

So one of you people that know good writing and why this isn't, here is your chance to teach me a lesson or at least give me some insight into why you think it's "lazy".

Can you imagine the bitching if they had a intertitles after every scene explaining the exact date and location? Show would be 35 fucking minutes of intertitle.

You would have a thousand internet nerds screaming "We are not stupid! Stop being lazy and just shoot the show! LAZY WRITERS!"

Also, the wardrobe is all done by...Wardrobe. DnD have a final say I'm sure but that has nothing to do with writing.

Not taking the time to realize that saying 1000 ships was a mistake when it could have been as effective using another term that sets up no expectation that can be proven to be impossible given the source of other materials and time frame accomplished is lazy posting. A person of self worth and desire to improve would look at that and state it could have been written better. A person who doesn't would defend it as perfect as otherwise it would instill doubt and everything becomes a routine of second guessing your own work.

I get it, writers train themselves to be confident in what they have done, otherwise they would self criticize themselves so much that nothing would ever get wrote.

Still, you asked for a example of lazy writing. So I present you an actual case.

The best example of lazy writing we can give is the comments complaining about lazy writing.
