Where have they stated season 5 will encompass the entirety of both AFFC and ADWD?
They haven't, but it has been assumed since the show runners stated they have aimed for 7 seasons. Those books are the weakest anyways and could stand to trim the most fat. Your main plot threads would be:

1) Arya assassin training
2) Dany doing Dany shit, end with her flying off on Drogon
3) Jon at the wall doing political shit then getting shanked
4) Theon escape (not sure how they will spin it in the show if they don't keep the fake Arya bit)
5) Dorne stuff
6) Tyrion + Jorah stuff
7) Some Sansa stuff
8) Some Brienne stuff
9) Some Cersi stuff
10) Some Ironborne stuff
11) A few Brann scenes

Honestly that is a ton, but when you get down to substance, many of those storylines won't actually take much screentime. It sounds like Brann meets the Children of the Forest at the end of this season, so next season you aren't going to spend 30+ minutes in a damned cave. Brienne you have wander/get in a couple fights then meet LSH. I also wouldn't be surprised if they compress certain plots in the book into single storylines in the show. For instance, in the show you have Jaimie playing diplomat/peacemaker in Dorne instead of wandering around the Riverlands. I bet before Tywin dies, he will say something like "Oberyn being killed puts everything at risk. I need you to go to smooth things over in Dorne".

Well I won't watch it once it eclipses the books, I simply am far more invested in the book storyline than GOT but I agree completely that his decision to allow HBO to finish his work was incredibly foolish. I think once he resolved the mereenese knot, he presumed writing would return to the levels of the first three books but he is entirely too lax with his schedule now comparative to then and the story has grown vastly more complex.
Us book readers are doomed because the ending will be out on the Internet and good luck avoiding being spoiled. People are being assholes to the non-book readers spoiling shit in random places you'd never think of seeing spoilers at. You know the same is going to happen to us.

SOmething tells me the TV Watchers wont be so fucking smug about knowing whats coming up.

Thats not a shot at anyone in this thread, but the people I come across who read the books in my day to day are just so fucking annoying.

Yeah any new Sansa material will have to draw from the outline GRRM gave DnD since Darth Sansa is technically ALREADY past where her chapters are. We get hints of her transformation into LF's protege---and you can argue that the show just handled that in the visual way that the medium is forced to---but she doesn't take direct agency quite as much in the book as she already has in the show.

It's the same issue if we get Stoneheart in this season too... wtf is Brienne gonna be doing for two seasons afterwards. It's actually kinda worse with Brienne since the NEXT time see see Brienne after her encounter with unCat in the books it's when she's luring Jaime into a trap/meeting.

They COULD spend a whole season of Darth Sansa just travelling through the vale pitting one suitor against another but where she's ACTUALLY giving monologues that are expositions/flashbacks etc. The show usually does this very well. They could have her sitting in a cart for five mins telling Robin about her dad and Howland Reed and the Crannogmen for one episode then have her tell Royce about the Tower of Joy in another episode's monologue. Could they show a scene with Sansa in each episode for an entire season purely for exposition without moving her along? Maybe if they tie her up with other storylines from the books, IE the setup for Connington/mummer's dragon/etc.

I'm hoping that the woman wasn't Lady Waynewood, otherwise that means they are going to totally change the storyline.
Sometimes I wonder if I just didn't read closely enough, or if you people are just obsessed with the books a bit too much. Who the fuck is Lady Waynewood, and why don't I remember her or why she's important? Or rather, what storyline is so important that you don't want changed?

Or maybe it's just that the last two books were huge letdowns after ASoS and I kind of forgot all the shit that happened (or rather, didn't happen)?

I honestly don't know if the actress playing Sansa has the ability to pull off Darth Sansa. Even Petyr Baelish doing his thing gets rough at times.

Actress or not, LF already does this enough. Having both of them spout off history (specially history that sansa wouldn't even have the slightest clue about.. (tower of joy.. really?)) would be incredibly boring for a viewer.
Yes I want to see and watch what happened during that event, but i sure as hell don't want to watch sansa talk to somebody about it like shes old nan.

Why would ned ever tell sansa of all his children-his war stories with howland reed? unless you know.. he told robb, and robb decided to tell sansa, "put down that needle and come listen to a tale of our dad and this dude you've never met!".

Thats some serious grasping lol

edit: i like playing devils advocate on theories~

Yeah lol, Arya is one of the most popular characters on the tv show and everyone wants her to get training to be a badass. Of course they are going to show it. Will probably be quite a bit different, but she is definitely getting assassin training.

Is that a serious question? you're asking if they're going to follow through with....Arya's entire story arch following ASOS.
yes i am being serious. next season will have dorne sets and locations, the septum(sp) sets. mereen fighting pits and river location shoots with tyrion added. then we have all the other stuff in there already. I AM NOT saying they wont build arya's stuff too, just wondering how they are going to budget all these things and am worried they may cut something else i enjoyed in the books.

and you missed what i said. go back and read it please. i said will they show arya's training in braavos? i know they will get her training somehow, but im worried we wont get to see her trained in the city itself.

Yeah, that's ridiculous. Arya's chapters are some of the only things that got me through that shit book. The Cersei chapters were decent, Jamie's were tolerable, and the Iron Islands stuff was occasionally interesting. And obviously the Dorne stuff was good. The rest of it was pretty crap.
