While they were busy not reading the book at all before writing the episodes of this show, they probably should of at least skimmed it? The reason that spot on the Kingsguard was available was a previous Kingsguard was caught having secretly married not one but three different women (they weren't aware of the other wives since they were each "wed in secret" since he was a kingsguard) and siring children with all of them. Despite being one of the greatest fighters and honorable men he had broken his vow to the king and had his cock/balls/nose cut off (so he could no longer seduce women) and sent to the wall. All of his children were made into bastards and all of his bastard sons were given the option to go to the wall with him.
Other than him, Aerys Oakheart (whose shame drives him to commit suicide by cop in the books but never appears in the show), and Jaime Lannister, the Kingsguard do not fuck around. but of course now they do because marysue can't want something and not get it.

I think this episode just was... I'm so glad that the poor, miserable, wretches living within the city's wall have cirque du Soliel every night as well as cool barbecue and full blown orgies. Must really suck to be the king! I hate the way all of GoT just shoves non-nonsensical porn into the show. Then, of course, they have to do the shock value thing-- like the uncle niece, kiddie porn thing. Because that adds depth to the plot...

I think I read that not only is it canon, but that the targaryens from GoT are descendents of that particular incestuous couple. Could be fanfic though.

Literally they've changed pretty much everything, characters, motivations, actions, and consequences. From a god damn summary. Fucking cliff notes "this is what happens" and they cannot even do do that.

I read it and can only remember The Conquest, Dance of Dragons, Blackfyre Rebellion and Summerhall. Not much details though.
