So you think it's bad advice to understand where people from other walks of life are coming from? People saying shit like "You should realize you're fortunate" and "There is always someone who has it worse" are in ancient proverbs Cad. What are you even talking about? That shit is rotting your brain. I can't imagine how much you hate The Statue of Liberty.
Saying check your privilege is worthless. It doesn't fix anything. It just puts guilt on the people who made the correct decisions, and in fact implies that we benefited through no action of our own. It denigrates the efforts of those who did work for things and did make it. So in that sense, I think it is harmful.

People with wealthy and attentive parents start at level 50 while people born in slums/druggie parents/whatever have to start from level 1 with a rusty short sword.

Sure,it's possible to climb up the ladder but it sure is a lot harder. How do you people have such a hard time understanding this?

So can you point me to where I implied this "check your privelege" nonsense?

I wonder if you'd talk to a peer, co-worker, or even superior like that outside of the internet. Would those words pass your lips if you and I were having this conversation in a bar? What's the cutoff on this "check your privelege"?

"Nice glass of scotch, smooth cigar, mortgage is paid, we've got it pretty good don't we bud?"
"Did you just tell me to check my privelege?"

Well by that analogy the level 50 is a dirty RMT who cannot play his own class well and gets booted from groups because he keeps training the group and nobody likes him.

Nobody I work with would ever say something like "we've got it pretty good don't we bud" thats hilarious.

Most of the partners sit around and complain they didn't go into investment banking because thats where the real money is. (These people make 1.5-10M/yr already)

Khane what income bracket are you in that you think that just because we have done well for ourselves we sit around patting ourselves on the back?

I don't even know where the two of you come up with this shit. I probably make more than you and your wife combined a_skeleton_03. And what does that have to do with anything?

The post you quoted was me trying to understand your definition. But you said I had used this offensive "check your privelege" language elsewhere. So where is that?

I highly doubt that. Combined we make as much as Cad probably.

What does it have to do with? You were the one "just asking questions" about where the line on questions was .... What you would talk about with friends .... It has to do with YOUR question.

Uhh... alright then.

Your wife's a nurse right? And you're a satellite tech for the military? I remember this from the what do you do thread. I believe you said you make about 80k/yr and your wife about 110k/yr. That's what I'm basing my statement off of.

Suffice it to say I'm top 2-3% in income for households in the NY/NJ/CT tri-state area on my income alone. And I can't believe I'm even participating in this conversation.

More apt analogy is that Wrath of the Rich King (harhar) was just released and the Poor's still only have access to vanilla.

Yeah but as the level 1s are leveling up the 50s are locking down all the spawns and loot.

So you agree the education and opportunities for those children are unequal?
And why are those parents losers? And why were their parents losers? Trace it back to the beginning, what caused it?
And how were they supposed to know how to do that without proper education and upbringing?
I'm enjoying just asking questions and watching people talk themselves in circles.
Those of us who pretend there is equal opportunity, the facilities and classrooms are equal, the books, libraries and knowledge children have access to are equal, and every person in this country has a chance to make something of themselves are being incredibly dishonest about the plight of certain groups. It's not reality.

I have no answer
I'm just discussing an issue people are bringing up the opportunity is the same. That was the argument. It's outrageous to pretend that's true.
The only argument I was making is it's outrageous to claim these kids have equal opportunity.
No, I get it a_skeleton_03. You think everyone has an equal shake.
Do you guys really lack any and all empathy and really, honestly believe that there aren't just some people that have less of a chance because they were never taught basic things you and I take for granted? Or that there mental capacity isn't the same as yours? Or they have other handicaps that prevent them from being able to just pick themselves up?
What I do have a problem with is people being willfully ignorant about reality just because they don't want to admit some people are just fucked. I don't know why they can't admit that, maybe it makes them feel bad for not trying?
All I've been doing in this thread is pointing out that you're either out of touch, or being willfully ignorant by pretending everyone has the same opportunity in this country.

I never said I cared, I never said I'm trying to fix it or that it's not fair and everyone should get everything. I'm saying "this is the reality".
I said some people have much larger hurdles to overcome, and some people do in fact have no chance. SOME.
I'm not suggesting anything. Several people here implied or flat out said everyone has the same opportunity. I said "I don't agree" and asked questions to see why they felt that way. Then I gave some off the cuff examples of things that exist in this country that prove it isn't equal.

I care about inequality. I care enough to say "that sucks" and that's about it. I'm pretty selfish. But at least I'm honest about it.

I tried to have this argument in some other thread. And got the same response as you. Almost word for word. We should go drink a beer sometime if you're in NJ.

Yes you two educated white men can sit in a bar in the northeast and drink beers and wonder why nobody understands that you love the poors and the underprivileged so much. That sounds like a HOOT.

If you are basing it off that statement we are a little higher since she is doing both NC and CA and she is a nurse practitioner (being pedantic because she is about the title). We will pull $250k this next year.

So you are there also, I think Cad is around the same window (I could be wrong I know he recently bumped up) so why are you asking him what is acceptable conversation about privilege in his circle? You are in that circle.

My question for a_skeleton_03 and Cad is how many years of your life have you lived below the poverty line?

It doesn't even matter, I make considerably more but honestly, whats that matter? My investment account builds up a little faster. So what.

All he's saying is, there's people who don't have the same opportunities. He's not even identifying why they don't have those opportunities, or what to do about it. He just wants us to be aware. Of our privilege.

Thanks Khane! Your wisdom is appreciated sir!

Yea uhh.... exactly. I was saying "This shit exists... why are you denying it?" and then I asked a few questions. That's what sets you off? That's the level of conversation that makes you want to scream about privelege. You even quoted me saying I didn't care.

So again, where did I actually say "You guys are assholes, you don't know how good you've got it and you should just shut up and appreciate your life because other people are screwed. You have no right to complain"?

The entire conversation was built around one idea. Everyone has equal opportunity. So just disagreeing with that statement is enough to get your blood flowing and compare to these hateful SJWs you're so concerned with?

I get that I irritate you and you like arguing with me, but damn Cad.
