SPY 585 is max pain on OPEX today.

Wouldnt be surprised to see it parked there today. Christmas week is low vol. Expect the real move after the New Year.

Jealous

I bought 600 shares x $142 at thanksgiving thinking that was the bottom, then been adding at 136, 133, 131 and took another 300 shares this morning at 127

Target exit is 150-155. Probably will have to wait till early January for payday though

I'd concur on Jan 13-17 range for all these counter trend moves to lose some momentum. Will flip to a longer trade for me if it can tick a new high.

I'll be watching closely but the RSP/IWM/NVDA/AMD trades are all targeting early to mid Jan for me. It can be tempting to start trailing things with stops but thats a tough call early morning spikers are stop hunting at the obvious levels.

At what age do you start buying bonds in your retirement accounts?
I was just talking to my mom about this the other day.

If you're traditional retirement age and in your 60s, how long do you think you'll live? If you're average, and use an actuary table, you've still got likely another 20+ years.

If you ignore age for a second and someone asked about investments and they had a 20 year investment horizon, would you recommend bonds at all? I sure wouldn't.

a 40yr bull market in bonds and a 13 year secular bear market in equities convinced people they should have bonds in their portfolio. I believe it's a mistake. Want to see some carnage look up Vanguard Target retirement funds vs SPY for the last five years.

Now should people in retirement have more cash on hand for expenses? The answer is yes. Starting around 68-70 based on life expectancy people should incrementally step out of the market if they would need those funds to pay for care. an 82yr old missing out on bigly gainz is not exactly important. Capital preservation is.

I was suckered into those target date retirement funds. When I started learning a little about the market and investing (still trying to learn) I was disappointed at the results. A few years ago I cashed them all out and started moving them into voo. Good news is I'm broke white trash so it isn't like I've lost a ton of money since I didn't have a ton in the funds, but still, missed out on potential future income.

I know the strategy behind those, but they also destroy your highest gains by moving you into bonds around the time your assets are growing into snowball-down-the-hill range. Right about the time you'd be thinking about FIRE because you can make enough gains to live on your gains, they're moving you into bonds and killing your gains. Those only work IMO if you are planning an asset drawdown to death rather than trying to sustain life on the profits from your investments.

Sanrith Descartes Sanrith Descartes I just bought todays 136c, it's rocket time.

These things 10x today going to be worth quite the chuckle
Was with clients this morning when things were in the target range so couldn't focus and pull the trigger on anything. Let's see if we get a fade into the close. Looks like worst case scenario I still get the AMD shares assigned but miss the NVDA and keep the premium.

NVDA is such a FOMO "must own" stock now that I almost don't want to own it. INTC was down around below book value again and I'm thinking about it just for the value of the foundries.

Alright, so I need some advice/help on potential tax havens/savings. I'm not really a trader, barely ever sell anything and PLTR being up as much as it is would be a significant cash out if I either decide to sell or my stops get filled. Is there anything I should prepare for beforehand and any way to lessen the tax burden?

is it all long term ? over 1 yr?

Your first $47k of LT cap gain is tax free, if you don't have any more this year you could take some of the gain this year and some it next year.

You want to avoid having more than $518,900 in a tax year of cap gain as any amount over that gets bumped up to next bracket.

There are some fancy things you could do with options to in essence short the position to keep it at this level so that you can delay part of the sale to 2026 but that wouldn't be foolproof.
