yeah i really enjoyed rise, its really simple and basic and felt like an MMO side quest engine but I liked the visuals and combat a lot. while some sprite work is shared between eiyuden chronicles they really feel like completely seperate games, its super weird.

1 boss down in chronicles and i'm still pretty bored, the writing and characters are really just shit. its not weeb enough to be funny, it feels like its written for 7 year olds or something.

also grinded a bit more in persona 3 reloaded over the weekend, i'm up to Nov and hoping i'm closing in on the end. i found P5R to be way more fun and interesting characters and setting, P3R is ok but the tower is way too fucking big. i think i've spent my last 3 gaming sessions over 2 weeks just going up like 20 levels in the tower and it gets pretty boring fast.

all 3 games - eiyuden rising, chronicles, and persona 3 reloaded - being on gamepass though is pretty awesome, its like weeb central up in there.

IIRC the tower in P3 is totally optional at least. It was my favorite part of the game, since it was just straight dungeon-crawling and persona-forging gameplay. That's what I wanted from it, not the High School Simulator parts. Wonder if the SMT games are more what I'm looking for, like I suspect they are. Still haven't gotten around to taking a look at them.

Eiyuden being written for 7 year olds is something I haven't noticed much, probably because I got used to these Japanese RPGs being written for 7 year olds a long time ago. Another reason why I say that I got into WRPGs/CRPGs way too late, they were more what I was looking for all along.

The thing about Suikoden/Eiyuden that sets it apart is the setting inspired by Chinese mythology, the epic soundtracks, and the ability to recruit an army of minions.

Try Wandering Sword. Great wuxia setting. Great soundtrack. Some weird skill learning mechanics (not bad, just unusual). There’s a free demo.

Asian Octopath?
The graphics are octopath, but nothing else really. It’s grid based battles. A bunch of recruitable characters, but not 100+ like suikoden or eiyuden. Various weapons and skills that skill up and do different attacks. It’s not a “omfg must play” game but it’s pretty cool, any JRPG fan should check it out. The gfx, setting and music are great. The devs seem pretty cool and receptive to feedback from players, they made some good changes based on it. I paid full price and was happy to support them based on how they respond to their players.

finished Eiyuden Chronicles Hundred Heroes, clocked in a bit over 60 hours to finish the story with all 120 heroes but I am nowhere NEAR 100%'ing the game, I think looking at my remaining trophies theres probably at least 30-40 hours more to do. I don't think i'll do any of it.

i never played suidoken so have zero nostalgia for that game or type, so this game was kinda mid for me. The story is just ass, its childish as hell and your main character acts like he is 8 years old most of the time. I've gotten used to anime shocks and twists and big moments so this game having almost none was weird. I guess I can appreciate its built for kids but so was Sea of Stars and I felt that had more of a bite than this game.

That said the other parts of the game were really fun, I enjoyed recruiting all the heroes, I enjoy the combat and combos esp with such a big roster, item drops and equipping, the magic system, the overworld, the characters themselves, on and on. The mini land war game was fun. Building up your town was really fun. So all those parts are pretty good, I'd give the game a solid 7/10 on that and just wish the story was good.

Yeah the 8 year old behavior and ass story were big letdown. I fizzled out with the game after a while but I'm going to finish the rest, since I do have nostalgia for Suikoden. This was made by a lot of the same people, BTW.

I was playing Hundred Heroes while I got high.
Building Fort Castlekeep while I got high.
Now I'm starting over and I know why! (Why man?)

Because I got high,
because I got high,
because I got high.

Was really enjoying this game while I got high.
Put off a spinning top game and got real high.
Now I am done with this game and I know why! (Aw man.)

Because I got high,
because I got high,
because I got high.

Ignored a certain plot point because I was high.
Mismanaged my save files because I was high.
Playing Persona 3 now and we know why! (Yeah man!)

Because I got high,
because I got high,
because I got high.

I *almost* bought this without looking at the price, holy shit this is overpriced. However, if this ever goes on for 30%+ off I am grabbing it.

Is this the old Dragon Warrior 3? I remember when that was out for NES when I was a kid. When we went to vist my grandmother's boyfriend in the pysch ward I'd always stay in the level 1 area with only the semi crazies and they had DW3 there so i'd just sit in the corner for hours playing that praying no old crazy fuck came at me thinking I stole his pudding cup....

Had a class change mechanic later into the game around some pyrimad I think (?); its been like 31 years but I do remember farming metal slimes I think!

yeah, thats dragonwarrior 3. Ortega's son.

price. idk, taking an NES game and making a full orchestra 3d game out of it. thats a 20 remaster.. watching footage, the game does appear to be 2d grid based. so its entirely visual. no mechanic changes.

is this the first one they did? did they skip 1 and 2? looking around it seems like they did. thats odd. its expressly a trilogy...

ign asserts 1 and 2 are coming in 2025.

so weird... best to wait and get all 3. unless... 1 and 2 get cancelled, from everyone waiting for all 3 at once. haha.

While technically correct. its mechanically the most advanced, and the very fact its a prequel is supposed to be a big twist/reveal. you really aren't supposed to play it first.

I read it does have some mechanics changes, forgot what. Also read it has some weird censoring, boss trolls lips removed, bikini armor changed, body type a & b instead of m/f, people are wondering if things are also going to be changed in the translation/story.

Started playing Persona 3 *hey, hey hey* Reload, didn't get far in before I was *hey, hey hey* reminded of something that kinda irritated the *hey, hey hey* shit out of me the first time I played it. In the *hey, hey hey* town and school areas the music has this repeating *hey, hey hey* line in the background that I can't unhear. Everyone once *hey, hey hey* in awhile a male voice goes "hey, hey hey" and for some reason it's almost like nails on a chalkboard for me.

Never underestimate the power of little annoyances.

It's one of those games that you buy and then it sits on a shelf and you never get to it. Baten Kaitos was really interesting for its time in-era. The sequel(prequel) BK Origins looked less interesting but supposedly played better. I never got to that one. I think both of them have been remade and I still haven't gotten to 'em. I'd only get them if you look into them and are super intrigued. They're slightly above-average games. There are better things floating around, for sure.

Main thing I've always remembered about DQ3 is the pyramid and the class changes. The pyramid is awesome on the NES version because there's a Gold Claw in the basement (best weapon for the Fighter (monk) IIRC) but if you pick it up, you get attacked every step on the way out, like you've just awakened some sort of ancient curse.

I like DQ3's classes a lot too, all of them are fun in their own ways. I'd put them up there with FF1's classes as far as short, but fun class sets go.

I've got a Dragon Quest thread over here that'll probably get some discussion once this trilogy is out, can answer any questions about DQ3 or any of the others that folks might have.

you honestly saved yourself, I 100%'d P3R (free on gamepass so meh whatever) and thought it was a 6/10 at best. It has maybe 5-10 hours of great story but its a fucking 100 hour game. I actually liked the BGM so never bothered me but the story was weak as hell and the tower climb was mostly boring.

playing Yakuza 5 now and really enjoying it, kinda cool they change locations completely for the game at least the 20 hours I've played so far. No doubt i'll head into kamarucho at some point but having a blast so far.

the studio is supposed to announce their new game at the tokyo game show in Sept, wonder if its a new Yakuza game or a Lost Judgement game

Yeah im pretty sure i had it when it came out on the cube and never actually got around to it lol

P3R was fine, the QOL changes were really nice but its definitely not as good as 5. I 100%'d it in like 80ish hours though, P5r was almost double that fuck that games length
