It looks like they are making it so Krypton is destroyed by the war with Zod. Will be interesting to see if Zod uses weapons or not...Always wondered what a war between Kryptonians would look like, whether it was just them physically beating the shit out of each other or if they had ridiculous weaponry to deal with their powers.
I know absolutely nothing about Superman so this may be a stupid question. I thought Kryptonians were "normal" on their planet and it was only because of the yellow sun near Earth that makes superman "super". Is that not correct, like, could Kryptonians fly and use super strength and whatnot on their own planet?

*Edit* Ok, question answered as I was asking it!

Kryptonians are "normal" on Krypton (like humans are on Earth) due to the red sun. It is only the yellow sun that makes them godly.
Yeah, but that was a movie/modern ret-con. In the originals, Kryptonians got their powers as a type of singularity, or something--as in they achieved physical perfection through their technology (The original writers were big sci fi buffs, supposedly). And it was further enhanced because of the yellow sun (Somehow?). But in the original origin, all Kyrptonians had his powers, even on their planet, just here they were amplified--that was one of the "hopes" of superman, why we were chosen to recieve Super-jesus, because one day we'd evolve to be like them. (Which is how the Jesus allegory developed, I assume).

Anyway, it usually ruins the Superman story when they delve into his powers--but since the movie seems like it's going for a more technically sound base, I wonder if they will tackle it or not. Personally, I think the whole "technology made us the epitome of biological perfection" is fine, like magic, there is no limit to sufficiently advanced tech.

Ok, you got me, before the 1950s or so they were super-powered

But every story since then (not counting post-Crisis because I have no idea what the Kryptonian history there is) has made them fairly normal in regard to powers when on their home planet. That's also the basis for the stupid Kryptonite weakness here under the yellow sun, I believe.

Could be evolution or technology, Spiegel and Shuster weren't exactly clear about it.

After a few years, they retconned it to being due to Kryptonians evolving on a planet with a much higher gravity. Either way, both are kind of actually reasonable at explaining super strength.

Having his powers coming from the yellow Sun came much later, in the 1960's.

yeah. obviously theres been a great deal of evolution.

I mean, he couldn't fly till the radio show, etc.
Crisis of course was a huge.

The S being House of El, and Hope are both retcons too.

"current", "pre-nu2" cannon for Krypton was:
1. Warrior race. Genetically modified, but normal strong in their homeworld. Got super powers of course pretty much everywhere else. Which lead to massive extra-galactic expansions. They became world conquerors.
Got into a fight with Guardians, Reach, Martians, etc.
After awhile, cooler heads prevailed, and they pulled back and became pacifists, isolationists. (totally Chozo) I bet they left Superman powerups all over the galaxy in statues.
2. Martians were super dicks. just complete assholes. everyone hated them. They did experiments on humans. Figured out humans had more "genetic potential" then they did, and introduced bio engineering to screw over humanity. This is why humanity doesn't have rampant superpowers like every other race.
3. Tomar-re was the Lantern assigned to Kryptons sector. oops.
4. not sure what the official account why Kryptionians themselves didnt do shit really.

i suppose the writers have chosen to leave that question untouched because there is no possible logic reason why a race of potential immortal gods would not leave much trace of itself

a dozen of superman could conquer the galaxy in what ? a century ?

well again. its the same as the chozo in Metroid.
They were so advanced they didn't care about expansion anymore. they pulled back to Krpyton to become introspective. Then refused to interact with everyone else.

The question is still though, how did they really not know the sun was going to blow if they were so advanced? and why only 1 off world station?

Honestly, that is probably what should be the answer. They "moved on". The ones living on Krypton still were remnants of the civilization. Most either ascended or left the universe.

heres my version, Tired of war with the guardians, Reach, and Martians, they pulled back to their own solar system. Science counsel grew in power. Phantom zone discovered. They decided to explore and expand into their. Most of the population resided in the Phantom zone. only Krypton and Kandor remained outside. communication stopped overnight. What happened to the settlements in the Phantom zone is unknown.

If you haven't, you guys should read Invincible. Much of the story revolves around a "super-race" almost exactly like super-powered (everywhere) Kryptonians.

Plus all their men have mustaches and their leader is a super badass who looks just like Freddy Mercury.

Going on about the discussion of whether they will tackle his and other Kryptonians powers. There are some minor spoilers, but only for the start of the movie (But still will spoil it.)

It seems like the reveal that Superman was naturally born is a big reveal--because at this time, all Kryptonians are born with bio-engineering, to give them specific traits that are supposed to help them in their specialty (Military ect). So it seems like they are leaning towards Superman's powers being from very advanced science creating the "perfect" life form, which is fine with me--if they have to explain it at all.
