I don't recall seeing a Superman like this that recklessly engaged in the destruction of a city. .
Uh 90% of the destruction was done by the gravity thing. Another 5% by multiple missile launches from the raptors that hit the ground and lets not forget the falling jets because they thought they just needed to get closer(lol). The actual fight between zod and superman didn't really do that much comparatively.

Which is funny because before watching it, critics and the babies here made it seem like him and zod did all the damage while fighting and seemed to do it on purpose.

This is what happens when 2 super powered beings(of equal strength/powers) fight in literally dead central of a metropolitan city with no prior warning or time to evacuate. Which hasn't been really done in a super hero movie. Maybe in comics/cartoons, but this is the first I can remember it in a big movie release and its about time.

Even Independence day had enough sense to have a memorial scene.

And even 5% of innocent bystanders being crushed by Clark is too much. 1 is too much. you can't have that happen, then 25min later when that fight scene finally ends, have us be emotionally tied to 3 random people, who might die. Clarks uniform is stained red from some 4yr old that was in the building he just flew through and Clark headbutted, but Zod is totally going to kill these people! omg.

Want to see what happens when civilians die to heroes being careless. read The Boys.

Riiiiiiiight.

Cause if you might possibly have accidentally caused the death of bystanders at some point during your super powered brawl with a bunch of fellow kryptonians hell bent on wiping out the entire human race, it instantly turns you into a sociopath who doesn't care about three bystanders about to get murdered in cold blood right in front of you.

Or you know, you could watch ANY of those videos that Gavinrad linked. They all show Superman killing far more people than in Man of Steel, because as has been said 20 times in this thread, 95% of the damage was done from the World Engine.

Like I said before all it needed was a scene showing Superman trying to convince Zod to move away from the city and Zod responding by blowing up an orphanage.

Just wow. You are really trying hard.

Lol could you imagine the rage and tears from caliane if they actually showed and focused on a orphanage getting blown up. Hell's hes already imagining 4 year olds getting headbutted by superman and splattered all over the walls, I think this would put him into a coma.

On the other hand, Trollface would be deliriously happy because it would cement the validity of his "Superman kills babies" schtick.

Just got back from seeing this -- I don't know what criteria classifies someone as a "huge" Superman fan, but I will say he is my favorite out of all superheroes. I often watch the animated movies and loved the character during Justice League / Justice League Unlimited run.

That said, I really enjoyed the movie. Yeah, the wanton destruction in Metropolisprobablyresulted in thousands of deaths, but you don't witness any of them. So, I can suspend disbelief and imagine people evacuating the area and managing to flee to safety. Sure, that's impossible but whatever.

My only major complaint is the ending when Kal snapped Zod's neck. THAT was totally out of character. That is literally the same as Batman whipping out a gun and shooting the villain. Not sure why the script writers went that direction as some other outcome could've easily been imagined.

Because Snyder is a dipshit. He wrote that part of the script himself and convinced his other writers to follow his league.

We should arrest this Clark guy in real life.

You do realize Superman has killed super-powered beings before in the comics right? Ones that there was no other way to stop. Including Zod and company in an alternate earth and Doomsday.

I would 100x rather Superman kill Zod than ever endure the cheesiest Pizza Hut "You got P'zoned" promo ever. Even if they would do a 33 minutes or less delivery deal with it.

NUH UH, DIDN"T HAPPEN. Superman doesn't even actually fight anyone. He just tries to love them more, and really talk it out. No one ever dies when superman is around, they just go to sleep.

Actually, no I don't. I was under the impression that Superman has neverdirectlykilled anyone or anything. And I'm speaking of the primary universe Superman -- not some alternate Earth storyline.

Heh I was looking up Superman villians and found this.

Medini Action Comics #25 (June 1940) A great Asian hypnotist who performs crimes using his hypnotism to make people forget of them. When he meets Superman, the Man of Steel is weakened by his hypnotic power, and is unable to control his powers properly, while Medini leaves with a captive hypnotized Lois Lane, planning to rob a gold shipment to Kentucky from a plane. Superman leaps through the stratosphere, then suddenly down again, the swift descent and sudden atmospheric change restoring his mind to normal. He then stops the plane Medini has robbed from crashing and tells the police where the loot is hidden. It is unknown what happened to Medini, as he is not mentioned to have been arrested or escaped, although Superman is shown throwing the emptied plane onto some of his henchmen, so possibly Medini was also killed.

Seems like Superman was an asshole back in the 40's as well. HOW COULD HE DO SUCH A THING. The reality is comics change all the time, and this movie was more akin to the more recent ones then the 1940's ones the Reeves movies were.

I'm curious what people think happened to zod and his 2 buddies in superman 2. iirc he makes it so they lose their powers(aka basic mortal human) and then tosses them into some deep crevice between the ice crystals in his fortress. No powers to cushion the fall, no healing and its below freezing. I am pretty sure zod died from that.

I think the big things for all "pleasantville" superman fans is seeing it done in your face(and to someone that looks human) and in such a basic/brute way.
