Nothing crazy about saying their are ailments that we don't fully understand, with FM standing strongly in that category. However, it gained this stigma because there are 1000s of women out there who have something wrong with them and it isn't this thing we call FM and don't fully understand. Every medical professional out there will tell you that there are people who create their own problems and the number of people doing that vs the the number legitimately suffering from a rare and not understood disease is vast. It remains today a catch all diagnosis of, "I can't find anything physically wrong with you".

It's similar to Lyme's which we didn't understand that well at all just a decade or two ago and there are people who suffered with it's symptoms for years without doctors understanding or thinking to test for Lyme's.

The medical community is very much in the "we don't understand this" stage so your statement implying it's a fully fleshed out disease and any belief otherwise is "ignorant" well kinda seems ignorant.

Just because they aren't fully sure what causes something doesn't take away from the fact that its a very real disease. MRI's have shown those with the disease do have abnormalities in their brains that process the bodies pain and they have been able to deduce that it can also be hereditary which is leading studies into seeing if there is a predisposition to it and there are treatments for it besides Opioids.

Again, not fully understanding something doesn't mean it doesn't exist. Mayo, Harvard Medical, Henry Ford all acknowledge it exists they are still just trying to figure out the root cause. So yes, saying its fake is in fact ignorant.

Fake or not, bitching that your husband "bullied you" into getting a second opinion about a poorly understood disease when you have a weak diagnosis in the first place and have done almost nothing to try and manage it/improve your life is a two story tall flashing neon warning sign.

Think you misunderstand me, I posted about not understood for the very purposes of calling it "real", HOWEVER, a large number of people with the diagnosis do not have the disease you are talking about because it is used as a catch all diagnosis. Therefor it is not ignorant to believe that some individuals may have the faking it version of things and suggesting so is not ignorant on it's face. You would have to have more information about the person, diagnosis and treatment, but in many cases you are on the safe side calling BS. Otherwise we have to argue that this genetic disorder magically coincides with attention whores, or maybe that's the key to our understanding...

My original response was to those who flat out called the diseases fake. Misdiagnosis doesn't mean its fake either. That's like saying celiacs is fake because a ton millennials pretend to have it.

I'm not arguing the misdiagnosis and people using it as a crux, I said so a few times already. I'm simply stating those that that flat out said its not a real disease that they are in fact, wrong.

Yep, been getting a few of these giant warning signs recently. There's the aforementioned, a "RESIST" bumper sticker on our car, a "Fuck the Patriarchy" needlepoint hanging in our kitchen, attending Women's Marches locally and Schenectady.

A persecution complex, basically.

That's rad. I've only done it once, but it was the most exhilarating thing I've ever done in my life. That moment when you tumble forward out of the airplane. I don't think I've ever yelled so many "fuck yeahs" in succession. I also dived in Monterey which had dope views of the Pacific Ocean the entire time. Could see from Santa Cruz to Big Sur. It was sick.

It was a gift from a friend. I got her to take it down, swear words being one of my arguments. Wish I didn't have to use it though. Bumper sticker was removed too.

This ain't sounding good. Sounds like a lot of issues coming together all at once. She probably said "fuck the patriarchy" behind your back after you told her to see another doctor.

Go to Lodi. One of the best DZ's ever. Foler Foler yes I mostly swoop these days because I don't need to make an effort to find the freefly groups and can improve with much less instruction. Also more cost effective!

I stand by what I said. When they figure out what fm is, they'll call it by another name. Fm is totally a diagnosis of "we don't know wtf is wrong with you". That's why it should piss off anyone who isn't an addict to be diagnosed with it. The dr has given up on fixing you. I'm not saying none of those people are in pain. Some are, some aren't. For some, it's in their head and you better believe that can cause real pain. But they've given up on fixing you.

Deathwing have you taken inventory of her drugs to determine if she's just a pillhead yet?

My wife went through this shit. She wound up at a pain clinic and got an injection that worked pretty well for her. Walked out crying because she wasn't in pain for the first time in years. She will probably need another injection in the coming years, but so far it's been just the one.
