Its the first one being married but we lived together for 3 years before this and dated for 2 years before that. So its not like its our first XMas. And neither of us really like XMas anyways.
Christmas is a sham man, especially for a DINK couple. If you want something you can just fuckin buy it, why wait until Santa comes? Whenever Christmas or Valentines day would come around I'd try and do something stupid and thoughtful, my ex was an artist so one year I tried to paint a picture for her (it was fucking awful).

Yeah the main problem is that we're DINK so if we want something we just buy it. For the past month I had to purposefully not buy things to give out as my XMas list. I find the whole thing very, very annoying.

I'll probably just go out and buy her a bottle of mead. She's been on a mead kick lately for whatever reason. Probably because she wants very terribly to be a hipster.

Also, Noodle, most women hide under their mom's skirts no matter how insane they might be. Most of this is because many mothers like to pound their insecurities into their daughters, at least in my experience. My wife keeps a tight orbit around her mom, but at least she realized a lot of what her mom says is bullshit. That realization comes with age, though.
I think you're using a stereotype common to many people and are only cognizant of its presence in women. I'd argue that men are more likely to keep their association with their mothers in a negative way than women. Or maybe it's just more noticeable to me because men being mommy's boys is a problem for a lot of women, where as women 'hiding under their mom's skirts' I think is more acceptable to men, because we don't view it as direct competition.

My girlfriend told me she doesn't want to do gifts for Christmas any more, but would rather put the money toward a vacation every year in the spring. That works for me. We booked a Cozumel cruise in April instead of doing gifts.

Christmas sucks. Thanksgiving is so much better.

I think I need to step up and buy something more for XMas for the wife. All I bought her was an e-gift card that I made her print out herself since my printer at work isn't working. She was downstairs wrapping presents then lording it over me that she bought me like 5 things and I only got her a piece of paper. I'm thinking maybe a fancy bottle of wine? RR bros help me out I need it quick.
We really don't do much for Christmas presents, but this year I'm going to surprise the wife. I got her dark chocolate, Kona coffee, and gift certificates for massages (professional).

We've been married since Jesus, so all the household shit is taken care of, and if one of us actually needs anything, we just go get it. Presents get more difficult as you age it seems.

Ah dark chocolate is a good idea. She loves that Trader Joe's super dark stuff. Think I'll hit that up.

Yup, I'm always happy to get alcohol during the holidays. Can't really go wrong there.

Flowers at work that she can bring home over the break are a good play. Back that up with some Xmas morning Champaign, if she is into that sort of thing, and something small and cute for her desk at work. Basically, just put a little thought behind it and get something that fits her personality and reminds her you give a shit about her. Of course my wife is wired differently, so I will be getting her a video game she wants for the PS4 and some models for her warhammer army.

I agree. With the wife or immediate family, figuring out something fun you want to do together works better than exchanging items you would have bought for yourselves anyway. Take a trip, go to a really fancy restaurant, get season tickets to something you both enjoy, etc. It's more fun than telling each other what to buy on your behalf or giving each other gift cards.

We won't be at our house for the actual 25th and I don't know when we're exchanging gifts. I gave flowers a thought as well but I have no clue when to time it.

Aka; The Good Life.
Yeah, itcanbe. I'm from a big family. There's 5 of us "kids". Growing up in that environment was fun and I have/had good parents. I'm thankful that my parents not only wanted kids, but clearly didn't even know how condoms worked. It's not for everyone, though!

Heh little different here. I'm the middle child of 4 kids, brother is 5 years older and sisters are 5 years younger and lived with my Father anyways so I didn't get see all that much of them growing up. Tried to spend a lot of time with my cousins and other distant relatives but MEH.
