where did people get the impression that coulson's death and return was a classified lv 7 secret?i thought it was only kept a secret from the avengers in the first movie so as to motivate them to work together?

Pretty much this. Honestly all the inconsistent shit is more likely to be bad writing and shitty continuity than some huge planned out thing.

this show is so vanilla, they almost never take any risks with their stories. we have these fucking awesome paganists, fixing to start a holy war but, newp they get bitch slapped by agent meathead who sucks again. i could also do without the fucking Lost musical sting every time tahiti is referenced. woo! i get it. its a mystery.

sorry, its not a mystery i really give a fuck about. whatever happened to coulson it couldnt have been too uber because he is still working the same job. its like if i worked at burger king flipping burgers and i get into a horrible grease fire accident, the BK corporation pulls all the stops using high tech gizmos to supe me up just so i can go back to flipping burgers. yeah, color me unimpressed. the most impressed i have been with show so far was when they burned that chick alive while she screamed in agony. if there was anything else on tuesday nights i would drop this show in a second.

That's a very fair criticism imo. It is just very middle of the road all the time.

this weeks eps... meh, i did notice a big contrast watching this show and almost human... almost human has better cgi/graphics, AOG's cgi looks like crap, and i'm the kind that really doesn't care about cgi and can do away with it, but watching those 2 shows back to back, AOG sucks in the special effects too.

I enjoyed the episode. The light tie-in with Thor was ok (a cameo was probably too much to ask), we got some Ward background and the twist managed to surprise me. I agree that the antagonist did just about jack and shit, but they are not the subject of the show: the team is. I found Chloe Bennet very good in the bar scene when the ironic distance her character uses suddenly became a little forced in a 'I am trying to make a joke out of it but I know it's serious' vibe.

PS: Happy birthday Wen Ming-Na, turning 50 today!

Little pet peeve of mine, but why does Hollywood insist on having people speak English with thick accents supposedly representing the area the characters are from rather than having them speak the native language? Or will American tv viewers just have a complete meltdown having to read some translated text? I remember from going to college in the US that people were generally against foreign movies with the reasoning "I want to see a movie, if I want to read text, I'll read a book", but not like there was that much dialogue between the Norwegian characters to begin with in this episode. It just seems weird and completely unnatural. Kills any sort of immersion in the show, which is funny due to the subject matter. Aliens, superheroes, superpowers, all good. Norwegian speaking English to another Norwegian, nope, this is not real and literally sounds stupid. They take the time to go to location, get the actual uniforms and vehicles, text is right, then completely mess up on the dialogue making it utterly unrealistic..... Why? It just boggles my mind why this is done in every damn show.

I disagree completely with what you said.

I've recently discovered I read and type like 4x faster than a guy at work. I haven't brought up subtitles, and he may be an extreme case, but maybe they can't read through it quickly enough and it brings them out of the scene substantially.

I can't watch a lot of anime generally because the middle of nowhere physical comedy regardless of the mood in the scene damn near always yanks me out of what I'm watching and I have to turn off the program in disgust. Could be similar.

I'd like them to speak their native language more though. Shows like Spartacus (lol starz) have slaves from all corners of the roman empire speaking the same language. I'm willing to accept for the sake of convenience they all speak english for the primary american audience rather than latin, but they wouldn't all speak latin either. That show is terrible for numerous other reasons though, and that never significantly contributed to my lack of desire to watch it.

People were not too happy the other day when the south americans in Homeland talked in spanish without subtitles (found it great personally, especially in the context of the episode).

That being said... didn't we have some chinese people speaking in mandarin a few episodes back in Agents of SHIELD? Where they subtitled? I remember people complaining that their mandarin was crappy though.

In this week's episode, the norwegians speaking in english was indeed a bit odd, but I guess it was to allow the antagonists to also speak in english... I rather they go that route than the always very strange "let's greet and curse in our language but speak in english for the rest of it with a thick accent for no evident reason".

How? Just in what way would you be against them being more realistic? The way they do it is lazy and makes no sense at all in any sort of reality, no matter the subject matter of the show. Only show I can think of that didn't do this are the old Viking scenes from True Blood where Alexander Skaarsg?rd speaks Swedish. Also, his level of English is more the norm in Scandinavia compared to the Fargo sounding Scandinavian accents Hollywood likes to use.

Edit: I should make it clear that I do agree with the convenience aspect. If the show or movie feature actors who are there all the time, I completely agree that having them speak English makes it more cohesive and keeps you from missing any sort of action by reading text constantly. However, when it is just a few lines, and you even take the time go on location.... take the time to add in the language.

That being said, I for instance, can't stand the translated text you get when you watch English shows on Norwegian tv channels. We don't dub things except for shows/movies intended for children, but the text is often just as bad with translations mirroring google translate. I remember that a lightsaber from Star Wars was translated into a "light" (as in weight) sabre when I watched in the movies. Or translating names, like LOTRs "The Shire" getting translated to "Lommelun" something that would re-translate to English more like "pocket lint". So I am not just against Hollywood doing that, but just the general half assedness that the movie industry puts on languages.

Not even having the subtitles would piss me off. If you're talking on the screen I want to know what you said.

The convenience aspect completely outweighs the nitpick over the authenticity to me for a show of this nature. They are globetrotting constantly, I'd be annoyed if every time they had to do a "start in native language switch to english" scene.

If I were you I'd be more bothered that Thor speaks in an Australian accent and Odin and Loki speak in British ones. Me, I'm not annoyed by that because I appreciate the simplicity of product over authenticity of accent and because I'm an American who thinks all foreigners sound alike anyway.

they could have awesomed this episode up a bit better. they could have chucked a few minor characters from the movie in this episode. (they couldnt even get the interns for this?), they could have had these paganists, totally trash a small town. since was a epilogue to the thor movie, would it have killed them to make this a 2 parter? like the episode ends where the they find the third piece of the zerker staff too late. dude totally stabs the asgard guy. combines the 3 pieces and runs off to commit mayhem with his buddies. second part they stop them. with help from the asgard dude. it was so frustrating to watch them have all this buildup over this staff and the paganist movement then have it treated so shabbily at the end. i mean the paganist stabbed the asgardian with it and he let go of it and agent meathead then took it up to fight him. goddamn, why would you let go? you were there to take the staff not chuck it around.
