Spent all my time in the training room and yeah hammer is good. Lance will 100% be my main, it is a damage/counter machine. Just constantly going in. I think they will both benefit from stam boosts so should pair well.
How do you get the stupid puncher thing to punch at you?

Usually there's a palico or something you talk to to change how the training dummy behaves.

Palico near the chest, can change a bunch of options.
I continue to experiment:

Bow is also insane, gonna be some muscle memory to find the flow but weaving in good tracker shots with combos is going to be top tier.

Great sword impact counters seem to be the most forgiving as well. Huge window and great damage into quick true charge. Monster knowledge is king with this one.

Sword and shield has some super fun moves while being crazy versatile. Look forward to widerange/speed eating/free food/mushrooms build again with this weapon.

I'd play more but had 2 black screens coming out of the tent so gave it up for the night at least.

Great Sword offset are really accessible. Switch axe as well. I'll be playing these two along with hammer and heavy bow gun. Only Great Sword can do the monster jaw power struggle thing too which is just really cool.

Getting a mostly clean 60 FPS from my 3080 TI on this. It'll do. I don't want to play this beta very much. Don't need to spoil myself just need to familiarize myself with the weapons.

I’ve gotten the power clash on Gunlance.

Never tried GL before but wanted to do something different. It’s a lot of fun. Spent a couple hours getting a feel for the combos. Now that I’m regularly getting off the Wyvern Stake moves it feels really good. The big Wyvern Blast is super satisfying too - gotta get better at using this after perfect guards.

Still plan on playing Horn too. Was reading on Reddit and they said most of the dmg up comes from Self Improvement in this iteration, so you’re not gimping yourself/the group by playing a horn that doesn’t have Attack Up (L). Ought to make the weapon a lot more versatile cause you can bring whichever song list is most appropriate.

Tried it on PS5. Ran ok.. I did laugh that there's a 120hz option when we all know it'll never even hit 60.

Kind of reiterated these games aren't for me. Beta was still well done.

I feel the LGB was indirectly nerfed compared to World, but I haven't played World in years. I recall being to set down 3 ground bombs at a time, with each being triggered more than once. Now you out get 1 that triggers 3 times.

Rapid Fire ammo also seems nerfed, but this I am unsure of. I recall with RF Pierce it would fire off 3 shots per trigger, same with others. Now it seems to just fire off 1 shot per trigger, while you need to switch into Energy Mode that enabled full auto.

These betas do a really poor job of pulling in new players imo. The gameplay loop of hunt - craft - eat - hunt doesn’t exist and therein lies the hook. Really excited to see the new weapon progression trees.

Tried the beta, I must be in the minority but at my age I just can't do this, maybe because Im just so anti controller. Have been playing games for 40 years and now any rapid combo fast eye movement type games now are just not fun for me anymore. Some might just be 10yrs younger or my eyes have slowed worse than the avg. Twitch games are in my past

To me the combat is like souls combat but much worse and much clunkier and I think that's my main issue

You are just a noob. Once you get good with any weapons moveset the flow is insanely addicting. Plus you can make builds that cater to your playstyle, hell in world you could make a build where you were unkillable by most things.

Yeah the slower/clunkier is my big drawback too. It's why I liked dual blades in Rise, cause I didn't feel like I was just standing around for 45 seconds waiting to try and time a swing and then I miss and get mad cause I have to spend another 45 seconds doing the same crap, and then after 37 minutes I finally do the same total dmg I could've done in 45 seconds with dual blades.

Obviously me not having practice on the other weapons makes me suck more with them, but it's hard to motivate myself to practice them when it's just endless frustration.

Yeah man, you're doing it wrong. That's the best part of Monster Hunter is the combat. You really do get used to it after a couple hours. I would suggest picking a weapon and sticking with it until it's mastered.

Game is definitely playable on KB&M, just takes some getting used to. I did it all through World and Rise. I tried Wilds with a controller and its honestly hard to go back to a controller anymore.

If the game feels slow and clunky, you obviously haven't tried the weebiest weapon Long Sword. Feels like butter. Problem is that it requires you to get gud and if you're new that takes many hours.
