Yea...I think Merriweather has been trying to make up for the embarrassment of this failed tackle/trucking (and then getting hurdled) he got in college. This play won the ESPY that year iirc
That's fucking great. Merriweather plays like he doesn't have arms. WTF.

God damn I forgot how much talent Miami had in the late 90's/early 2000's. Sean Taylor, Merriweather, and Vince Wilfork all on the field at the same time. In college.

They were way more ridiculous than that. That backfield alone was fucking sick. Clinton Portis, Willis McGahee, Najeh Davenport, AND Frank Gore? Get the fuck out of here with that shit. Then throw in Shockey and Andre Johnson on top of that.

38 players drafted to the NFL from the 2001 roster. Notables:

Ed Reed
Sean Taylor
Antrel Rolle
Vince Wilfork
Jonathan Vilma
DJ Williams
Willis McGahee
Clinton Portis
Frank Gore
Kellen Winslow
Jeremy Shockey
Andre Johnson

They're the one college team that I could say without a doubt would have been able to be competitive during an NFL season. I mean, there's quite a few Hall of Famers or borderline ones on that roster.

Nope. Just as nope as any time anyone has made this kind of statement. If you said an NFL roster with those guys in their prime you'd have a point, but in college they'd get obliterated by the worst team in the NFL on any given year.

That isn't even a direct comparison. Those are the best players from all of the teams. There were plenty of guys on Miami's team that weren't NFL caliber.

The game speed between college and NFL probably wasn't quite as different back then as well.

Different era + ALL STAR TEAM. Meaning a team full of the best seniors from all over the country. Plus you'll note they lost the last 12 times before it was scrapped, with all stars. The longer the series went on the worse the college team did.

2001 roster had all those players, but they weren't all playing together regularly.

They were a ludicrous team, but they also played an easy schedule and even with all that talent they only won the one title.

Again, you're viewing the team through their NFL accomplishments not who they were in college. You think Ken Dorsey was going to carry that team to a "competitive" NFL season?

Can you honestly tell me the 0-16 Lions beat that team?

This argument is dumb. College teams cannot even compete with NFL teams. Every player on an NFL roster was a badass in college. Hell, take Michael Sam, he just won the best defensive player in the SEC last year and went at the tail end of the 7th round.
