I'm reading the 49ers got Bethea at 23 million for 4 years, and Whitner is going to sign with Cleveland at 28 million for 4 years.

Considering how consistently terrible the teams with the most room have been*, it will be interesting to see how much they have to overpay to get anyone.
Not that I have a clue how these guys think but I wouldn't go to a shit team just to sit in purgatory for my entire career. Regardless of money. The premium you get from some team like the Raiders isn't likely to be that much over your market value to turn down actually being in a program that has even a slight chance of doing something in your prime.

And here I thought we were signing Vick.

Apparently we just signed Antoine Bethea to a 4 year deal. I like the signing. He's durable, playing every game the last 6 seasons, and has averaged 100+ tackles during that time. I'm not sure how great he is in coverage(haven't looked up the stats yet), but on the surface, it seems like a good pickup.
As a Colts fan I can tell you he's average in coverage. With that said, his speed has been declining for the past two years and he has become more of a liability, especially with Landry playing next to him. Hopefully it works out because he's a great teammate and hard worker.

I hope someone gives him a huge payday. Dude deserves it
Per a source with knowledge of the situation, Ware intends to be very selective about his next destination, but also to move quickly. Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that six playoff teams already have called.
Looks like to be off to a good start.

He's not going to get double digit sacks I would guess, sounds like more of an run stopper than anything which is what the bears needed anyway. Sounds like we're going to lose Melton to the Cowboys which considering their cap space seems strange.

He did get a huge payday. This is, however, the most GM-like decision Jerry has made in a long time. They could get by this year just fine without cutting Ware. Hell, they were $2m under and could have potentially gotten to about $10m without even touching his contract. So the move is surprising because they didn't need to make it. But Ware has battled injuries the last two years and just wasn't right this year after missing those three games in the middle of the season. So I believe the question was if he was worth the $16m cap hit when his health has clearly been an issue while also being on the wrong side of 30. He might have some stuff left in the tank, and he likely does. But $16m worth? Probably not. Will miss him though.

I hope this means they're looking to target D-line in the draft though.

Are the Rams resigning Clemens or are they pinning their hopes on the Great White Hope aka Sam Bradford?

Alterraun Verner to the Bucs. Glad to get him out of the AFC South.

Also, I just read that the 49ers have traded a conditional draft pick to Miami for Jonathan Martin.
