I keep wondering why the Sports world is enamored with the Cowboys taking Manziel by any means necessary. I'm sure if he falls to 16 they'll give it some consideration but QB isn't exactly a position of need and I can think of half a dozen players who might be at that spot that would have a more immediate impact than someone who will likely sit for two years before seeing the field.

Because Jerry Jones really likes money and popularity. Manziel would likely bring both.

The Cowboys already have the most money and popularity in the NFL, Manziel isn't going to change that significantly.

If he drops to 16 and he's the best player on the board, the Cowboys will take him - but they can't get rid of Romo (being released causes a mega cap hit) and it's Garrett's make or break year so he definitely isn't going to start a rookie QB.

Even if he is still there at 16 and he is the Cowboys best player on the board, it doesn't mean that they will take him. Just last year the Cowboys traded their first round pick to later get Travis Frederick and Terrance Williams instead of drafting Sharrif Floyd. The Cowboys Must Draft A QB If He Is The Best Player Available ... Right? - Blogging The Boyshas documented that the Cowboys have passed over higher ranked Qbs for other players when drafting. The only reason the media is linking Manziel with the Cowboys is because the Cowboys are very popular and people read anything that involves them.

They passed on Floyd because last minute Kiffin convinced Jerry and Garrett that he was a terrible fit in the scheme Kiffin/Marinelli wanted to run - even if he was high on their board. So instead they drafted down and got 2 first round players with the extra pick - Frederick/Williams weren't first round graded going into the draft but many re-drafts have both going in the first round now.

Ever since Garrett has had a say in the draft (last 3 years) they have turned out pretty well - and they have a new guy taking over the draft this year so I expect even less Jerry meddling which drastically reduces the chance of trading up for Johnny Football.

Frederick in particular has played well above his initial draft projections. He was pegged as a third IIRC, but he played the position well. Not a typical Jerry pick, but a good one nonetheless, which is a good thing for everyone who doesn't have to read these forums.

Cleveland Browns sign 2 quarterbacks. Vince Young and Tyler Thigpen. I don't even know.

Wasn't Brian Hoyer actually playing pretty well before he got hurt? At the very least, pretty well for a Browns QB, anyway?

He did in the few games he played. Not really a proven commodity yet though obviously and bringing in some other guys probably at least gives you some options. They have some good players there including a decent defense. If they get some halfway decent QB play they won't be a joke.

This could turn it around for the Browns!

Browns defense is better than decent. It's elite level. Sure, they gave up a good amount of points, but that included a decent number of pick 6s and turnovers in their own territory. The offense was just that bad. No run game and a rotating door of QBs.

I still think the Browns gave up on McCoy too easily. If they could've surrounded him with talent, I think he would've been an above average NFL QB. He literally had no one on offense to support him. At this point though he's pretty much ruined.

I agree. A good quarterback doesn't stand a chance if the O-line is terrible. The caliber of linemen is more important that quarterback talent. Hammer away, assholes.
