It's looking more and more likely that the 49ers will pick up the 5th year on Aldon Smith's contract. They have until Saturday to do so. I think it's utterly ridiculous that they are considering it, especially a guy who is an obvious repeat offender. If he had amazing value, I'd say the risk was worth it, but the defense still played amazingly well with him off the field last season.

Well, there really isn't too much downside to doing it at this point. The only way the contract is guaranteed is if he gets injured, and there is always a possibility he doesn't play this year. So if he fucks up again they can cut him and lose nothing. It may just be a way of protecting an asset and hope he can get on the straight and narrow.

Personally I say let the guy take a hike. The 49ers need less drama right now, and simply moving on from him at this point seems like it would be the better option.

I just read that the 49ers did indeed pick up the 5th year option on Aldon Smith.

QFT from that article: "That said, Manziel with the Cowboys would be hilarious and perfect on a multitude of levels so I?m gonna go ahead and root for this to be true."

I agree. A good quarterback doesn't stand a chance if the O-line is terrible. The caliber of linemen is more important that quarterback talent. Hammer away, assholes.
Sam Bradford approves of this post. Daezuel does not. =:emoji_nose:

Man I can't wait for the Draft, maybe San Diego will draft a QB and then later trade him so they can have 3 SB QB's they have drafted that have gone on to win a SB while never having won one.

Amukamara picked up for 5th year option by Giants. Very good signing imo by the Giants.

DRC(if he's focused) and Amukamara is a very solid CB duo, though neither of them can take on Dez.

Just keep double and triple covering him because they sure as fuck won't run the ball.

Witten always kill the Giants anyway, not really Dez (though he usually has good games). Remember that time he caught 79 balls?
Well that's their own fault, you can double cover them both while not having to worry about them running the ball because god forbid they actually run the ball and yeah it was like 17 catches.

I look forward to another year of the Cowgirls being a dumpster fire and Rivers taking the Chargers to the playoffs.

Linebacker has been a position ignored/whiffed by the Giants for a number of years. Witten just eats us over the middle every time. Between the past 2 SBs, I'm pretty sure we ranked top 5 vs. #1/2 receivers, and like 32nd against TEs and 25th against #3 receivers.

Hopefully the defense improves but I'm not expecting a lot from the Giants this year. New RB, new #1, no TE to speak of, offensive line still shit.

What's the board consensus on the QBs this year? I really like Bridgewater the whole "completion percentage while under pressure" stats are what sell me. I don't get the Bortles love other than he's got ideal size. And while I think Manziel has big upside he also seems to have huge bust potential.

There hasn't been much word out of Minnesota surrounding Teddy which has me worried. I like him a lot more than the other options.

Manziel is pretty solid. Really the only teams last year that stopped him were LSU and Missouri at the end of the season. LSU held him to 224 yards and Missouri to 195, and 2 TD and 2 INT in those 2 games. Rumor was he was hurt at the end of the year though. Early in the season he lit up Alabama and Auburn, passing for over 450 yards against both, and they're obviously no slouches.

I think Manziel could be good, as long as he doesn't get hurt. He needs to be a scrambler like Favre or Elway, scrambling to eventually throw in most situations. Not a scrambler that takes off running more often than no (Vick). He'll get killed doing that, as Vick did most years.

Am I confusing Bridgewater with someone or was he the one that put up big stats again the cupcakes, but didn't do much against good opponents? From what I've read about Bortles, they like the size and the fact that his numbers don't change based on pocket pressure (haven't double checked that...just what I read). The more I hear, the more I hope the Vikings just take Carr or someone else that slips to the 2nd round. To me, all of the QBs are in the same boat where they could end up great, but they could also flame out. I don't see a sure-thing this year.

My only real desire going into the draft is that we draft Skov in the 2nd or 3rd.

Is it just me, or does the NFL Draft seem like more of a crapshoot than it should be? I tend not to get very excited about the draft, considering how monumentally shitty some of the first few round picks seem to turn out? Or is it just the media coverage of the burnouts that have jaded me

Bridgewater did poorly in his pro day so the scouts aren't as high on him as they were. Bortles has been the opposite. His stock went up alot after his pro day and various team workouts. Manziel is still where he was, amazing college qb but people question if that will translate well to NFL success.

It's such a crap shoot I'd hate to take any of them unless you were a team that was just a qb away from winning a Super Bowl, like the 49ers.
