For collection purposes, having an empty box with nothing in it is like having a baseball card protector without a baseball card in it.
That's a bad analogy. What people are displaying with game/software boxes is the box itself, not the software inside it. The game itself is immaterial - it's bits of digital data. These people have the game digitally on their Switch already, what they want is something to show they own it, something physical they can put on a shelf or display case.
Nah, Splatoon isn't my thing. Just making a logical argument against Ut's pointless schadenfreude.

Now, a point can be made that the contents INSIDE the box should be played with and collected. There isn't a mention here of some idiot collecting an empty box. Pretty sure this dude who wrote this link would know. He sounds pretty serious about his dolls. I am assuming that dolls and video game collections are transversal across the medium.
Ex: If I buy a collectors edition of a game, I get the game, a manual / Art book / CD Audio Track / and a statue of some sort and most likely all the DLC content/expansion pass. All that in the box, unopened, will be far more valuable as a collectors item than taking all that out, playing the game, using the DLC pass, and selling the stupid box it came in. And to also prove my point, I am not going to order a box with nothing in it, because there isn't anything special about a damn box with art on it with nothing of value INSIDE the box.
For those watching at home, I just had to explain this to a completely unreasonable Nintendo fan boy who defends EVERY single thing this company has done, the majority of it completely backwards and with due hilarity owed to the Japanese overlords at Nintendo.
To further prove my point about boxes.
Here is an unopened box (With CONTENT INSIDE THE BOX) and the price it lists for. This happens to be an NES action set, never opened.

I tried checking for boxes for sale. Just by themselves. I cannot find any. The content inside WITH the box is what makes the collectors item. The box itself? This is what will happen.

But it's not a logical argument. Real collectors don't just want the box, they want what came inside it. No one displays boxes for shit they don't own. At least not any collector I know, and as a collector myself, I've known many. Only a lame ass poser would display a box for a product they don't even own. The Splatoon 2 bundle not only comes in a different box but it also includes new controller colors. A real collector would buy the set, even if it's hard to find, even if they already own a regular Switch. A joke of a person, which seems to be common enough in Japan to be selling empty boxes, would buy a box and display it like they actually collected anything.

Ok buddy you have fun paying double the price for that indie game that has been out for 3 years already because Nintendo won't let their publishers separate prices for Digital and Physical because... no one knows. Have fun paying for those VC games we have already beat to death, yet again, on the 5th generation console they were purchased for... again... Don't forget about Skyrim. That came out 6 years ago and now you can play it dumbed down to Morrowind graphics on the go for a full $59 price point!
PS4: Last of Us. Uncharted 4. Horizon Zero Dawn. Far Point (shit, anything VR related on PSVR is epic), Bloodborne, Until Dawn, Yazuko 0, Persona 5, Nioh, Nier (Although also available on PC) Ni No Kuni 2, Uncharted the Lost Legacy.... This can go on and on and on.
Xbox One: I own one but it sucks.
Switch: BOTW which can be played on the WIi U. Mario Cart Rehash - Played on the Wii U. Splatoon 2 - Whoopity Doo! Mario Odyssey.... 4.
4 Fucking games. One of which is new and awesome and can be played on the Wii U with hardly any noticable difference. Another is a fucking port. And two new games with 50 indie titles at double the price because Nintendo has their head up their ass, an alpha online service, no VC, no sharing of accounts, no sharing of games across the household, no apps, and over priced accessories.
And for God's sake E etchazz don't forget to preorder your empty box!

The Switch has only been out for a couple of months, you retarded fuck. You've named a handful of games for the PS4 that are exclusive for a system that's been out now for almost 4 years. That's about one good game a year for a system that was almost twice as much as the Nintendo Switch, and that you and other fuck wads brag about how superior it is to the Switch, which isn't even its competition. The PC is their competition, and even the cheapest gaming rig would run circles around the PS4 and Xbox One. Just about every AAA title that is released I can play on my computer, and run it faster with superior graphics than the PS4. So I don't need my Nintendo Switch for those games. I bought the Switch for its portability and for the Nintendo exclusives. I'm sorry that you made such poor decisions with your life that $300 is too much for you to spend on a portable gaming system. For me, the Switch with Zelda and the pro controller was less than a day's salary, so well worth the money.
