No one else has them online because they are deterring scalping which is why they are forcing people to go into stores

This doesn't hold water though, because if production is meeting the current demand, the best possible way to cut out scalping would be to make them readily available at Amazon. No one pays a scalper when Prime will have it on your doorstep in two days.

For whatever reason (misguided strategy, incompetence at manufacturing or supply chain, etc), they aren't producing enough of them to prevent scalping via availability. I don't think the demand for the Switch is off the charts huge, but I DO think Nintendo is fucking up by not keeping them on shelves while there is excitement for them. The fact Nintendo has done this repeatedly (Wii, NES Classic, Switch, maybe others?) leads me to believe they fucking suck at forecasting demand and setting up a competent supply chain.

Nintendo doesn't make money on scalps, and nothing puts normal people off like having to pay some fuckwad a bounty for holding your family's toy hostage. So congrats to them on losing revenue.

"“I'm loving the Switch!” Kaplan wrote. “My second favorite gaming platform of all time is the 3DS. Getting [Overwatch] on the Switch is very challenging for us. But we're always open minded about exploring possible platforms.”

They didn't outright say it wasn't happening.

It will depend on how much money Nintendo threw at them :)

True. They didn't outright say it, but when has Blizzard ever done anything "very challenging" in terms of technology? They are about as play it safe, by the book as any gaming company. And getting a decent looking Overwatch that runs at 60 fps would definitely be a risk on the Switch. Besides, does Nintendo have enough money to throw at Blizzard? Do they even do this anymore?...because I have a feeling the amount required would be massive.

I hope that list is real. Having both a 2D Metroid and a new Metroid Prime would be awesome, along with a dozen other titles on that list.

If the list is real it's a big win IMO. Metroid Prime is an amazing series and a new one of those alone would seriously have me thinking about grabbing one some time next year.

Yeah, they really dropped the ball (again) when it comes to supply and demand. I agree that the demand isn't as high as people are making it out to be and that it's an issue of shit supply, but I also agree that they are squandering an opportunity and that they could sell more than they have if they put stock on shelves. There is a middle ground that Nintendo can never seem to figure out.

At this point I just think Nintendo doesn't like making money.

I just think NOJ is backwards as fuck and no one has the balls to tell the people at the top as much. Could you imagine the difference in supply, marketing, and third party deals if Microsoft, Sony, or even an Apple had this device? Nintendo has, for decades now, seemed out of their depth when it comes to anything other than making games.

There are plenty of replacement docks and controllers out in the wild now... so...its the tablet that is the holdup in production?

There's no proof out there that Nintendo is practicing artificial scarcity for their consoles/handhelds. They are just very conservative after a failure (namely Gamecube and Wii U). They had over 3 million consoles available at launch worldwide which was actually a pretty good amount if you compare it to other console launches. It was definitely more popular than Nintendo or any industry experts thought it would be, and they aren't able to ramp up production most likely because of component shortages. They could pay more to get these components but that cuts into profits - the tablet itself supposedly cost around $250 to manufacture which doesn't leave much room for profit already, and Nintendo doesn't take to take a loss on hardware like they did for the Wii U.

The Wii was a phenomenon that they could never meet demand for almost 3 years, when they were selling over 20 million units each fiscal year.

There are plenty of replacement docks and controllers out in the wild now... so...its the tablet that is the holdup in production?

The rumors are that LCDs (Japan Display Inc.) and NAND flash memory (Toshiba) are the two biggest road blocks standing in the way of increased production. They are competing with companies like Apple for these same components from the same companies. This has been an issue with mobile hardware for years now actually, and it's hard to compete with Apple for production lines.

So I was just pissing around on Craigslist to see how the scalping is going, and I found a guy that lives less than a mile away selling a new Switch with Zelda and Mario Kart for $400. In his post he mentions selling for $375 if you come to him. So this evening I'm going to pick it up for about 20% less than I could in a store. My nephew is going to shit himself. I bought him a 3DS and he's been playing just Super Mario Land and Mario Kart for years on it.

Um.... Be careful here.

I hope you have a concealed carry permit. I wouldn't trust anyone that says "If you come to my house you can have it for $375". I would meet in a VERY public place and pay the extra 25. In fact, I would suggest the local police station.

By come to him he meant his area, which just happens to be the area I live. Most of these auctions are 30-45 minute drives minimum, so I don't think he was expecting someone the next street over buying it. We are meeting inside Zaxby's this evening. If I lived in a shadier area I'd be more worried, but I don't even lock my doors here, I'm not overly concerned.

Can't wait to see the little guys face when he sees this thing. Going from MK 3DS to MK Switch is going to be crazy for him.

You are a good uncle :)

I will laugh through if he looks at you and says, "But... Uncle Rafterman, I really wanted a PS Pro with a new 4K TV and Horizon Zero Dawn"

One of these days he probably will. Luckily he doesn't know what HZD is yet. He already has my old PS4 and plays Skylanders, Disney Infinity and the Lego games on it, but I haven't introduced him to the good stuff yet. He's about to turn 6 and getting him used to the dual analogue controls was a challenge but he's gotten really good. He's gonna be schooling me soon. I miss having a rugrat around the house, but at the same time I just turned 43 and don't think having another at my age is such a great idea, so I just spoil the shit out of my sisters kids.
