This is what happens when people praise groups like Anonymous and Wikileaks and whatever else. Nobody cried out when they were doing the work of the people but when hackers get bored they target whatever they want. Don't pretend outrage and start throwing around words like terroristic when you normally would let any actual terrorist walk free. This is a hacker embarrassing Sony because they can and nothing actually political.

Pretty sure Anonymous and Wikileaks weren't threatening to blow up theaters. Wikileaks was also exposing the secrets of governments, which are supposed to be answerable to the people.

They may seem like the same thing but they're not.

Anon is a mixture of pretenders and cryptoanarchists. Wikileaks is a mixture of espionage and transparency purists. This is something different than that. It's just a new face of a corporate monstrosity.

The means are all similar but the ends are all very different. Guns don't kill people.

That is assuming that Sony didn't do it to itself. Which I still think is a high probability. This just seems like such a colossal clusterfuck that I have to assume the Yakuza were involved.

Yeah.. no. You're proving that for any issue there's always "those people" and congrats you're it for this one.

I don't know, I think we as a society have given Anonymous and other people like them this Robin Hood status and lump them in with Wikileaks. I know they are complete and polar opposites but maybe not on this forum but if you ever talk with 99% of the population anyone on a computer like that is the same person.

So basically, Sony tried to release it in theaters and no theater would touch it. Then they tried to release it as video on demand and all the major cable companies and VOD providers said no. George Clooney tries to circulate a petition of support for Sony over this and not a single person will sign it.

I mean, I can understand being pissed off that they caved, but they know where the money is. There's virtually no dissent at all amongst the people actually responsible for making it.

It only takes one incident for this to go from "Sony bravely showed the movie despite threats" to "Sony, in yet another act of incomprehensible hubris and incompetence, endangered the lives of moviegoers around the country." Sony made the right decision for them at this point, I am kind of shocked that anyone thinks that any studio would release a movie in the wake of terrorist threats against the audience.
