I mean even at that price, you still need a mobo(100-150bucks), a CPU(200-250$), RAM(100-150$), a SSD(150$ for a nice big one) and a case(50-100$) to get a basic PC working, and you need peripherals if you haven't owned one before(like 200$ for a good keyboard and mouse but can go down to like 50$ for cheap stuff) and obviously either a monitor or a good TV but consoles need that too. So you're not really close to competing with the prices, you're still looking at like 3times the price of a console generally and while it'll be a lot better than a console in terms of power, it's not really worth it for the average user.

I'm 100% more likely to own a 3080 long before I own a PS5/XBox at the time consoles release because of the price. If you are just a console player sure you don't buy one, but if you game on a PC at all your money is better spent on the GPU and wait to buy the console when more and better games are released. The launch line up for both consoles is very weak so far.

Any idea how bottlenecked I would be with a 6600k on a Z170 motherboard if I installed a 3070?

A little. 4c8t CPUs are the bare minimum now and with true 8c/16t consoles releasing this year they are going to be in a world of hurt this time next year.

Gotcha. Is that still true for 1080p gaming? I doubt can justify a new monitor on top of a gpu uprade and/or new build.

I guess I'll see what the upgrade landscape looks like after the new AMD cpus are released.

Do you have a 144Hz monitor? If not realistically you are going to be wasting money buying something as powerful as a 3070 as that would be complete overkill for 1080p gaming on a sub 100Hz monitor.

I'd look into a used 2080. Those will be cheap with imminent launch of the 3000 series.

Nope. 60Hz still. I am likely to get a higher refresh rate monitor during the life of my next card though, so a 3070 might not be totally crazy.

Im in the same boat. I have a 970, going to replace with a 3080 probably. It will be an upgrade to be able to run everything maxed but my tv is 60hz so it will also be an overkill. Will probably be replacing the TV this winter. Will definitely be watching sales this holiday season.

Almost stressed this morning about keeping my 7700k, and frustrated that the board doesn’t support anything greater, but talked myself off the ledge since I’m really only worried about 1440p @ 120 Hz for the time being.

i7 7700K is fine man. I have this chip, and at 3840x1200 I'm still video card bottle necked with a 1080ti.

Just wish the stores get their prices set and maybe queue system but thats probably too much to hope for. Seems the Asus cards will go for $1000 in Sweden unless they lower them a bit but it follows the trend with taxes and shit over here. $800 in the US will be around 950-1000 here.

I think my 7700k is starting to die, either that or my RAM. Lots of super random BSOD's that I can't really track down. Ryzen 7 4700x where are you! That plus 20gb 3080 should do me for 4-5 years at least

It's easy to run test the ram. Get Memtest86 and run it overnight

whats the Ryzen 7 like compared to an i9-10k? I just checked cpubenchmark.net and my 3 year old PC (i7-6700k) benchs at 8900 CPU, a consumer level I9 seems to come in around 26k so nearly 3x my CPU, the Ryzen 7 i saw on the list is around 24k so a bit under the Intel i9's still but a bit cheaper as well.

Man i wanna build out a new PC but it feels like everything is just weeks away from getting a big upgrade

Did you overclock yours? I think mine is still sitting at 4.2

Yes. I also had a power supply die in the system like a year ago, so frankly all the hardware is suspect at this point. To be fair I've beat the piss out of that 7700k
