Hopefully AMD can save us "mid-range" cheapskates with the 9xxx series and their pivot from "high end".

How far away are we from another node upgrade?
It's complicated. Blackwell is using TSMC 4NP, which is a custom 5nm node.

You could already get TSMC N3 since 2022, but due to capacity TSMC reserves these cutting edge nodes for "select customers".
Read: Apple. Their M4 CPUs are done in TSMC N3E (available since the end of 2023), while the previous M3 was done in TSMC N3.

2nm Nodes should start production this year, but this is "risk production" with low yields. You can expect good yields between half a year and two years after that.

So, if everything goes well the architecture after Blackwell in two years will be using TSMC N3, which will have performance gains in the range of 11% to 32% and energy savings between 12% to 30%.

So basically, skip if you have a 4080. I’m coming from a 3070, so I’m still going to try to get one.

I'm on a 3080 LHR, and even with that, I'm not interested. Waiting on the 9070 since I am probably switching over to Linux, anyway.

What is up with the RX 7900 XTX performance on Black Myth Wu Kong? Is Nvidia paying them to purposely sandbag the AMD cards? I know PC Jesus said it was heavily optimized for Nvidia, but the consoles run AMD GPUs so it's baffling the performance is so bad on PC.

After that disappointing review, I am going to put my 7900XTX in my new build and put my 3080 in this machine and just sit out this gen completely. First time since 1080ti; Maybe if they do a 5080 Ti at some point. AMD really missed an opportunity, but Nvidia probably slacked off because of no AMD high end, so chicken or the egg.

Brahma you paid $4400 to upgrade from a 4090 to 5090 to play... Monster hunter????
Sounds like a wise man.

Got my 9800x3d, X870E, 4x32 dd5, hx1200i psu, and went with a fractal design XL case. Wish me luck on a 5090 tomorrow. More likely than not some scalper is gonna take me over the barrel for 3k cause I hate waiting more than I like money.

Seriously though, you're brave rockin' the 1000w ps with a 5090, minimum I'd go is 1200. Also surprised you didn't go 64gb and 4TB ssd.

Man I hope that power supply is enough.

The memory and ssd don't have names. I have a feeling I will be replacing both.
