Edit - I thought Basterds was a great movie as well, but the whole storyline with the theater lady and her boyfriend annoyed me - crucial to the whole movie, clearly, but when I think about this movie, I go to those two first, then to Waltz and the forehead carving and then finally to the AMAZING pub scene with Fassbender.

Man, but Melanie Laurent was just so nice to just look at on the screen!! :) The pub scene, like you said, was just beyond unbelievably awesome. I think that movie put Fassbender on my radar.

One thing that always cracked me up was KB2, when you see Bud and he's just this lump of shit working at the strip club, but you know he's this badass murderer, and the strip club guy is just treating him like shit.

I haven't liked a Tarantino movie since Kill Bill 2, so I'm going to just skip this one based on the feedback. I think he's easily the most overrated filmmaker in the business.

Death Proof is just bad bad bad. yeah the stunts by that Zoe chick are off the hook, but that doesnt make the movie good.

Death Proof was Tarantino accidentally making an actual B movie instead of a big budget homage to B movies.

Uma Thurman's daughter is like someone trying to change as few things as possible about Uma Thurman in order to make her cute. Its uncanny how small the overall differences in their looks are and yet how profound the end result is.

Ethan Hawke was really batting out of his league when he landed Uma Thurman.

I know that Tarentino Mannix project is a joke, but it's very strange seeing that because no later than last week I mentioned Mannix to a friend and we were surprised it did not get turned into a movie given Hollywood's recycling tendencies.

honestly had no idea she was in the movie, oh wait she was probably one of the manson chicks right? gross and weird but not much in the movie

the movie does give off a "hippies are dirty, fucking stupid, and woke" i wonder how critics will take that

there's also no black people at all in the movie (one hot playboy bunny), a few mexicans playing mexicans in old westerns

You're forgetting the valets.

"Hey, don't cry in front of the Mexicans!"

Only good parts of Death Proof is the hood stunt chase followed by them chasing him down and beating him to death

You're forgetting the car crash from multiple angles part

My two cents on the film itself:

Great acting all around - Pitt and DiCaprio kill it, both incredibly entertaining.

Pitt's character is allegedly based on Billy Jack, and I do see it looking back, but it didn't particularly stand out when I was watching.

As some have said, there's a lot that deals with the production of a film and if you don't care for that sort of thing, you may find yourself bored. However, I love that kind of shit, which is why I was such a fan of Birdman.

One of Tarantino's greatest strengths is the man knows how to pick a soundtrack when his films are set in the modern era and he doesn't disappoint this time.

All in all, one of the better films he's put out since the Kill Bill franchise. 8/10

this is in dolby theaters now in AMCs around me, ymmv and all that. I'm debating going for a second watch, I think you'll pick up a lot more knowing a lot of the insider stuff but fuck me 2h40m of mostly Tarantino cock slobbering Hollywood in theaters is also mostly a way to take a nice nap.

The movie will probably come to Netflix in 2020 with a 4h, 4 part cut so that might be the best time to (re)watch.
