A feature around the lighting that I love that I never see mentioned is that light levels determine if you can target something. So sure you can pump the gamma and see the mob, but you can't target or con them.

Light source slot is fine if you compare it to EQ where a light source in a top level inventory spot created light. Not really that different, just saves you an inventory spot. Can still implement improved lighting, maybe special vision etc.

Edit: to clarify by special vision here I'm talking about something like a lantern that reveals hidden doors and stuff like that rather than racial vision

On stream today Joppa reiterated the PvP server will be coming in Feb, with a two week notice before the actual launch.

Since they don’t plan to do any wipes until it’s time to launch 1.0 this could be the last chance we get for a fresh launch until retail. Hope some of you guys assemble there so we have a big force in one place to PvP and knock down a lot of these raid mobs.
Eat a bag of technicolor dicks, sir.

But seriously, good luck and have fun with that. I would rather uninstall and play literally any other game than ever play PVP in a game like this. That will inevitably be griefing for the sake of griefing like every other time it has been tried. PVP is the communism of MMOs.

or if the torch could run out or something yeah but its automatically equipped, always on for every person...

Hopefully this is a temporary solution... er thing?

Personally I'd rather have seen them go the opposite and change things such that people screwing with their gamma etc didnt circumvent night time.

Over on P99 I remember dark night time going in, some people saying it "broke their computer" downloading that patch. Lol...

Then we showed the basic candle was like a flood light when it should only barely light up the character holding it. This was ignored in favor of caving to whiners instead of making it a classic emulation of the game.

It will never end with the demands to neuter the game to McDonalds tier auto follow, 1 macro (none of these that allow more than 1 ability + some chat lines pls) that does your rotation, pets who wont attack CC'd mobs etc till they blow through the content and quit then move on to the next game to ruin.
It's like you are wanting this game to fail when you go off on topics like this. Your purity tests all have been tried, and resulted in dead games. Unless VR has infinite money, they are going to have to be player friendly if they want to have a game people will put money into after launch. This isn't 1999, and there are plenty of games out there that don't kick you in the dick for playing them. Being able to see is a literal basic necessity.

One change I would like to see is to remove buffs as castable spells. Since you can't unequip the spell gems, turn them into group auras that all group members in the same zone get as long as you are in the group, like whatever that +healing aura paladins have. This would remove them entirely from being used on randos, but make grouping a lot better.

People want a social game where you chat with the community and they want DDR where you cant afk or automate and have to press your buttons with reflexive timing. They are mutually exclusive features unless, very specifically, you have them separated via downtime. So you play ddr, then you chat for a few minutes while everyone holds their dicks waiting for mana or something, then its jump through hoops time again.

If you want an old school mmo feeling of shooting the shit and chatting up the bros and all of that, you CANNOT have the autistic arpg style button mashing or the ddr level reflexive gameplay. They butcher social immersion. You can only be social when you are NOT mercilessly abusing your mouse or keyboard. Unless the game is boring as fuck with regular downtime.

The single biggest gameplay change from eq to wow was that wow had you near constantly clicking or pressing. Fuck that.

Simialar to Counter Strike where there is down time while dead vs. COD with quick respawn.

Found the not Shaman or Bard.

I would say every dungeon or all group based content being instances was the biggest though…but yea OoC regen being too fast is definitely one aspect that moved MMOs away from the classic formula.

What bard was chatty in original eq? They all. Talked. Like this i. If they. Talked at. At all. Only sh. Shit bards. Didnt ta. Talk like t. Like this. Eventually they learned. To get their wpm up. And would be just a bit. Better.

Shaman was different because it wasnt a big deal to just not cast for a few seconds. There's a difference between having buttons to press and needing to keep them pressed on GCD or having to click them during a specific timing window that meant you had to be ready to press it even if you werent pressing it.

Wow instancing at least in 2004 didnt seem that rough to me as people werent hiding away in them, at least it seemed. And there was chat that crossed instances.

Also I am NOT advocating for more downtime. I'm advocating for less gcd spam and reactive abilities, and more autobattling. Who cares if people box.
