At first I was dubious about a handkerchief but then I got to thinking...the fanbois can beat off into it, everyone else can cry into theirs when this crashes and burns and their Kickstarter monies are wasted, and then we can all move over to playing Everjane and use it as part of the period dress we'll wear when we play it.

If McQuaid is selling the Hanky Edition, it needs to be strong enough to be beat off in for about 100 days, then washed, and cried into for the next decade. And it needs to be brown.

what should the target be from the kick starter?

Start Citizen $2,000,000 (now at silly $$$$)
Ever, Jane $100,000
HEX MMO $300,000 (now at $2,278,255)

I would think $1,000,000 is the right amount.

But if they have watched others. The thing to do it not end funding after the kickstarter and follow in the footsteps of SC. People will see its been funded and think ahhh... I want in and throw money at it after the event.
Make an amazing well polished website (this give the impression your are forrealzies) that allows players to keep backing and upgrading their pledges. Have stretch goals even if they are things you were going to do anyway cause people love them. Add the polls of what players would like you to make next to the end of the stretch goals. a(Flying castle) b(underwater zone) and so on... again people love that shit (again theses can be things you were going to make anyway).

Ok, seriously, where is this thing?

Unless they are making an in game demo of some sort then this should have been out weeks ago. You can slap together a talking head video + some concept art in like 3 days.

Hopefully they're waiting to have video game footage. Almost every kickstarter I can think of has some rough demo of the game. I'm sure there are ones that don't, but that point is, noone knows about them because they fail. Hard to get people to put up some money with just napkin talk (even EQN/EQNL had SOME footage!).

The only real issue is the typical one of failing to manage expectations of your user base. A date was given that wasn't reasonably tenable.

My faith in Brad's ability as a leader to bring a good product to market on time and on budget is extremely low. The lack of a KS in the time-frame he admittedly vaguely hinted at isn't helping.

There's too many projects that tried that and failed miserably. That doesn't work for Kickstarter because you've got to convince a bunch of people that they're not throwing their money in the garbage even if that's what might actually happen.

Kickstarter is still a valid platform but it's already past the boom of Wasteland 2 and Double Fine Adventure (Broken Age) where goodwill alone can fund a project. We've seen successfully funded projects hit with delay after delay (Broken Age) or just straight up never get finished. And in this case, you're talking about a "talking head" who has avid supportsanda legion of people convinced they'll never support him again.

It needs to hit soon. Like, real soon. But that initial projected Twitter timeframe won't concern me too much unless the KS finally launches and is a total train wreck.
