My older son, now 13 had some sensory shit going on. When younger he was diagnosed as a very high functioning aspbergers. When younger he used to horde shit in his bedroom. and I mean everything from toys, bandaids, little knicknacks he would find around the house. We laugh about it now, but whenever we wanted to find something that was missing, we would first look in his room. We even found all the heads of all his lego dudes neatly sorted and stored in baggies and shit. He never really made friends readily like my other younger son. He only liked certain clothes of a certain softness, he could not stand the texture of some food, and had very high anxiety while around strangers. He would also make noises and shit when excited or nervous, and I think they were uncontrollable. He is also highly intelligent with almost a perfect photographic memory.

We had to have him go to special school grades 2-5 because he would get in trouble all the time when younger, get into fights, temper tantrums, shit like that. It was gut wrenching for us to see him like that struggling. But when he hit like 9-10 he started drastically improving to the point when he was finally mainstreamed in the 6th grade. And now hes just like any other kid, has friends, has tons of xbox friends, spends nights at friends houses. the only thing I see about him today at 13 is still some of the anxiety stuff but for the most part I would consider him normal. Still highly intelligent, for instance we got him a mini bike a few years ago but it stopped working this summer. Well that fucker took the motor apart completely, cleaned it, cleaned the carb, and put it all back together and it ran. All by himself. I was amazed.

Chaos, just show them how you're being proactive in trying to figure out what's going on. As long as they know you're not some lazy deadbeat that just expects them to deal with it and you aren't trying to help fix it, I think it'll be fine.

You're doin gwell by all your accounts, just keep on the course you're on and I think it'll get figured out man. Chin up.

With "no child left behind" nowadays can they really kick a kid out of school? Seems pretty counter-intuitive.

There are a ton of legal recourses and funding and all kinds of things that the state will do for you chaos.

When it comes to that time you will probably need a lawyer or at least one on speed dial because the schools will not work with you until they are basically forced to.

Oh my lord. All of a sudden in the past couple days this kid is deathly afraid to close his eyes for a nap or some shit. Soon as they shut he screams bloody murder. So far he seems fine at night but he's fucking miserable without naps during the day. ugggggh

Intervention team sounds Stalinist.

But I'm thinking it sounds like a couple of kid-shrinks that the county keeps on the payroll.

And if she threw such a monumental temper tantrum that she shit herself I retract my previous suspicion that she's having a self-discipline and change of routine crisis. It may actually be something serious.

Dunno if I hit this thread up yet, but here I am.

Kid is due in 6 wks, I think I have finally come to terms with "my" life being over and ready to give this incoming eating screaming shit machine his due. Anyway, a boy, etc.

Fuk Chaos, that is a rough deal. I can honestly understand the not sure if you want to cry, scream, break shit, kill someone and move to Brazil, or just dig a hole for youself and lay in it.

Anyway, I got a question to start off my involvement in this thread, thinking about skipping a stroller . . . honestly most of the places we go we wont need one, and most of the times we would need one we could just have the wife OR I go instead. The real killer is going to eat out or someshit when the kiddo is still really really young, but fuk, we only eat out like 10 times a year (I am entirely too critical, yeah, big shock by my post history, I know).

So, should I buy a stroller to leave in the wife's trunk? Or just go with our plan of the backpack thing to stuff the kid in while out? I have carried a backpack (5 to 100lbs) my whole life, so I dont think it would bother me at all.

And fuck, how did you guys pick a carseat? Its not like you can sit in the damn things to test them etc . . . fuks.

SHit, apparently I had 3 things to ask about, cloth diapers. Tempted to give this a go, dont want to contribute the mountain of shit bags to the landfill, they are cheaper, more sightly etc.

Ok, so . . .

Stroller? Can I skip this? Or do I need one laying around?
Any advice on picking a carseat? Thinking one of these:
ProComfort SymphonyT DLX All-In-One Car Seat

Platinum SymphonyT DLX All-In-One Car Seat

And cloth diapers . . . (we will always have the throw away ones for lazy days / travel, but using them as a mainstay)?

My wife is a research whore so she researched the hell out of everything we chose to put on our registry. She ended up deciding on a Chico Keyfit30 car seat and stroller setup. It is a detachable car seat that will snap into a very light weight stroller base. We were fortunate enough to have someone purchased them of our registry for us.

As far as carriers go we have a Boba Wrap. I've used it a few times in the house when he was <2 months old. Just tie him to me and I could take a nap without worrying about him rolling off of me. A backpack deal would be easier to use I'm sure as this you've got to wrap around yourself then put the little one in it.

I dont remember what its called, but I have some hiking type rig for the backpack thing. Has a metal frame, pouch / bucket for the kid, and a fucking shade. Its over the top, but pretty awesome. I cant nap for shit even with out a kid strapped to me.

I might end up having to do the infant carseat as well as the all in 1. I spent a few hours looking junk up, figured that since the wife and I have around 5 months worth of paternity leave to string out, that we can skip the infant seat since the little shit monster wont leave the house more than a handful of times in the first six months.

Dunno, might reconsider that, the one I was thinking about getting has poor ratings for rear facing, but really solid everything else.

Ppl still trust consumer reports? Been a while since I was buying a ton of junk over a prolonged period of time, so I got an online sub to look at the ratings. Hard to trust anything anymore tho.

We also went with the Chico KeyFit-30. Great carseat, pretty much one of the highest safety-rated car seats you can get in the "non-retarded dollar amount" pricing range. My daughter just turned 1 and we just moved up from the infant car seat to the toddler-seat or whatever. Technically she could still fit in the infant one but pretty much any day now she'll surpass height limit so we just opted to switch to the larger one now.

When the kid was little for eating out and stuff we often left the kid in the car seat. Even in the grocery store you can just pop the entire car seat out of the base and pop it right into a shopping cart. I honestly rarely use our strollers, once baby+car seat became too heavy to lug around the kid was big enough to where we could just carry her. We also have anErgo-carrierwhich we like quite a bit, but a stroller was nice to have in a couple of situations. We like to run together so having a stroller for that was nice. We did a couple of things where we spent the day at the park and a day at the Highland Games and it was really nice to have a stroller for that. Sure, you could use a carrier the entire time, but don't forget you won't just be lugging around the baby, you also need to lug around all the crap the baby needs.

We've used a mix of cloth and regular diapers. Cloth around the house, disposables when out-and-about. We really like theGroViadiapers personally. We've probably tried 4 or 5 different brands and those are what we settled on as our favorites. Honestly they aren't that terrible to clean up, it is a bit of extra laundry but I think the cost benefits outweigh the clean-up aspect. Also keep in mind cloth-diapered babies tend to potty-train faster than those in disposables.

We went with a Graco click connect car seat and someone bought us the running stroller that goes with it. We typically never bring the stroller but it's good for walks around the neighborhood. It's fucking massive.

After seeing the shits my kid does I can't imagine using cloth lol. They're awful.

We have a baby Bjorn backpack thing and it's pretty awesome.

Also bro cheer up. I thought my life was over, but instead I got an awesome little dude. It sucks sometimes when I want to play a video game but then I think of it like this - me playing with him for a couple hours means a whole lot more to him than me playing 2 hours of video games means to me.

Breast milk/formula poops are pretty messy, but what we would do is just take the whole diaper and rinse it off in the bath tub. It would pretty much rinse right off the diaper, took maybe 30 seconds. Once you get to solid-food poop it is even easier because you get these little disposable liners (look like dryer-sheets) and generally the entire poop is contained to the disposable liner, so you just wad that up and throw it away, no mess on the diaper itself. It really isn't nearly as bad as I was worried it would be and again, SO much cheaper, especially if the early-potty-training pans out.

My brother and his wife installed a hand spray hooked up to the clean water from their toilet so they would just spray the shit into their toilet.

I guess my distrust comes from my parents using cloth diapers for my sister in the early 90s. Maybe the technology is better now and I'm also not retarded. I just throw them in our diaper genie and tie off the bag at the end of the week - works well enough for us. He only shits once a day now too.
