You would be surprised at what a teenage boy will do/learn to see porn. Pretty much got my IT background trying to get porn online and hide it from my dad. Although I had a stash on floppy disks with fake celeb porn, he always won on the PC. I guess a 12 year old can't outwit a 40 year old who is already in IT. I still got to see porn but he always deleted it.

In my house I'll pretty much do filtering on my router but once the kids are old enough for cell phones, what can you do?

On a semi related note, fuck AOL in the ass. Back in the 'internet is not common in a household' days, I stole a credit card from my parents, used it to get an AOL trial (to get porn), then cancelled it before it charged. They did a customer service call to my parents to see if they would still be interested in AOL if the cost was lowered. I got busted and got in big trouble.

Block safari, don't let them install new apps (iOS restrictions), only let them install games and text/call. Computer is in the dining room and screen is visible at all times.

As long as my kid isn't allowing other kids to look at porn and isn't googling weird shit like "naked 12 year olds" then it's all cool. Feel like his mom would think differently.

That's kind of the mentality I think I'll end up with. Yes, I'll block stuff but not everything on the planet. Honestly, looking at porn as a teenage boy is a birth rite. I'd wager that a majority of boys back when I was a kid either found a magazine or two stashed in their house or had a friend whose dad had some magazines hidden. Hell two kids I knew growing up, their dads had a collection sorts hidden in their garage. I'm talking 100+ magazines.

I just don't want crazy shit going on.

I don't think 12-13 year olds are ready for unfettered access to the internet. Their young minds could be scarred beyond recognition. I don't think they're capable of digesting 12 man interracial gangbangs when they've never touched a boob.

So my 2 year old got strep from day care... then gave it to my 4 year old, and then they both infected my wife and I. We just got over that and the 2yo got the flu from daycare (different kid), and he gave it to my wife and I. The 4yo seems like he's fine (just a cough), and the 6yo is complaining about not feeling well for attention.

I'm pretty much just turning on the TV or giving them their Fire Kids tablets. Modern parenting is awesome/terrible.

This has been my stance as well. I got my 14 year old a laptop for his birthday and while I keep tabs on where he goes and what he see's, I haven't seen anything that makes me worry or want to step in. He has no idea about any of this and is the type of kid who would probably hide in a cave for 6 months if he knew I knew so I'm fine letting him be a 14 year old boy in the privacy of his own room.

It's an issue, though. My oldest two girls I'm genuinely convinced are not looking at it and don't seem to have much interest. My 3rd daughter is the most likely suspect for looking at porn. My 1st son is just getting interested in naked bodies, and my youngest is just too young to be interested. We don't do a lot of monitoring their computer/tablet usage. We try to teach them to use the internet responsibly, and put trust in them to do it. Haven't had issues thus far, I guess we'll see what happens.

Didn't have "reliable" internet until I was near 18 and by reliable I mean 14400 bits per second AOL. Growing up without internet we did things like set people on fire and shoot bottle rockets at each other for fun. Of course we didn't have cell phones either. It was easier to just hop on a bike and travel 4 miles across town than it was trying to catch a friend near a phone. When it snowed we walked around barefoot just because we could.
