What does this mean?
Etoille doesn't think men have 'done their part' by sticking it in and working like an ant to support the outcome. We must also show we care and bond.

Jokes aside, I love every moment with my kid :)

I took 6 weeks off from my job, in the USA btw, through FMLA. I played a shit ton of WoW during it, but that's because he was sleeping so much, I couldn't help feed him, and my mother in law was living with us at the time to help with the baby.

Between all that, there wasn't much time left that he was awake that I could do much, but I did spend as much time as I could. Just so happens that left a lot of extra time as well.

Nursing pillow, best thing ever. Sat it on my lap while at the computer and baby could just nurse and sleep while I gamed!

So my daughter is now mobile, soon to be walking and in full squirm mode. Instead of getting cranky and stiffening her back when she wants to be a more comfortable position she now can twist around and move. She usually does this to try and grab something on a nearby table in her room.

She's been sleeping with blankets for quite some time now. She has to sleep with a stuffed animal that she likes to rest her head against as well as a blanket she likes to hold too. She's 9.5 months now.

SIDS really fucked with my head too. Guess it fucks with all parents heads.

Wait til the daycare have her. I randomly caught a temp worker putting up a blanket over the opening of the pram my daughter sleeps in, on a 25C summer day. She'd seen the more experienced colleges block ventilation this way with cloth diapers. 'The kids sleep fine'. Yes, they're oxygen deprived, carbon dioxide induced sleepy and over heated. SIDS, hello. Retarding development, hello. Morons. I see the effect of oxygen deprivation in children daily. I wanted to murder this dangerous temp and her idiotic coworkers with my bare hands.

I tried reasoning with the temp and her elder coworker in simple non-academic terms. They tried to shrug it off as officious advice - they do get a lot of unwanted parent meddling, and they're hard pressed for resources. The problem is when they're wrong, an entire work culture. You can imagine I threw a fucking fit at their ceo, sent him all the documentation we have on SIDS, as well as the documentation from the pram manufacturers.

We entrust them with out children, the ones that are the most fragile of us and cannot take care of themselves. They'd sue the hell out of me if I neglected their children the same way. I loathe nursery workers so much, morons, all of them.

If there is one thing I am sick of as a parent, it is diapers.

My 21 month old has decided she no longer wants to wear diapers but she doesn't quite get the concept of the potty yet. I put a diaper on her and 20 minutes later, she has a bare butt and has often peed in some random place. Every night before I go to bed I got check on her to put her diaper back on because she takes it off in her crib. I just want diapers, potty training, accidents and everything related to be over. Ugh!

Any toy/gift ideas for a 1 year old girl? We have a birthday coming up for our friend's daughter and naturally I want to be the coolest friend with the best present.

Yeah, for a 1 year old? Get the parents motor oil, or floor polish. The kid isn't going to remember any of it, and the only thing you're trying for is to be cool yourself. So get something that flashes to make the child happy, something that makes noise to make the parents sad, or a child's book if you'd like to have no impact on anyone.

I'm with ^^. I hate all this gift-giving nonsense for babies. My son gets more hours of pleasure out of random cardboard boxes and empty 2-liter bottles than anything else he has. That said, if you're forced to buy shit, my 1 year old son liked these a lot, and was happy when he figured out how to put them together, take them apart, and later stack themAmazon.com : Fisher-Price Brilliant Basics Stack Games

I always liked the idea of just having people contribute to their college fund. If most people are like me the last thing their kid needs is another annoying ass toy or outfit they will probably never wear before they outgrow it. It just seems kind of weird asking people for money.

I already bought these.

and I was trying to be sarcastic... of course no 1 year old is going to remember a gift you gave them and the whole idea is a farce. College fund was the direction I was headed.

I was at a baby shower once (as in, kid isn't born yet) and the kid's uncle got them this $600 electric car that the kid can drive around the yard. Great job man, get a gift that takes up a shitload of room and the kid won't be able to use for 4 years. If someone got me something like that for a newborn it would be on ebay the next day.

Yeah pretty much. Well, I would hold onto it for a few months out of some kind of misguided guilt thing I am sure, but gifts like that are destined for Craigslist.
